Role

We are seeking a highly motivatedFinancial Controller to join our growing finance team in New York. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant with 2+ years of post-qualification experience (ACA/ACCA/CPA) and a background in business services, audit, or corporate accounting who is looking to step into a fast moving, dynamic, global environment for a high growth business.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the month-end close process, preparing accurate financial statements, maintaining robust controls, and ensuring compliance across multiple jurisdictions with a particular focus on our North and South American entities and operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Partner with the bookkeeping team to review journal entries and ensure financial transactions are recorded accurately and on time as transaction volumes grow.

  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including accruals, prepayments, intercompany balances, and fixed assets, and strengthen the reconciliation framework as the business scales.

  • Support the month-end and year-end close, ensuring accounts are properly reconciled and supporting schedules are complete, and help shorten the close as reporting demands increase.

  • Prepare monthly management accounts and assist with statutory financial statements under UK GAAP and, where applicable, US GAAP.

  • Contribute to regulatory capital reporting, including preparation of capital and related regulatory returns, supporting schedules, and commentary, working with finance and risk as the firm's capital position and reporting requirements evolve.

  • Assist with VAT, payroll, and other statutory filings, ensuring timely submission and compliance.

  • Work with auditors by preparing audit schedules and supporting documentation and responding to queries.

  • Maintain and continuously improve financial controls, including designing controls that can scale with headcount, product, and entity growth.

  • Support budgeting and forecasting with accurate historical information, and help build the models and processes used as the business plans for growth.

  • Identify opportunities to streamline and automate finance processes, and help implement them so the function can support a larger, more complex business without a linear increase in manual work.

  • Collaborate with finance, risk, and operations so management, statutory, and regulatory reporting stays accurate and consistent as the business is built out.

Requirements

  • Qualified accountant (CPA/ACA/ACCA) with at least 2 years of post-qualification experience (PQE).

  • Background in business services, audit, or corporate accounting.

  • Strong understanding of financial accounting principles, statutory reporting, and control frameworks.

  • Experience preparing or assisting with consolidated accounts and management reporting.

  • Exposure to ERP systems (NetSuite preferred) and strong systems orientation.

  • Working knowledge or exposure to US tax, LATAM accounting regulations, and international reporting standards is advantageous.

  • Advanced Excel skills, including data manipulation and analysis.

  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to partner effectively across global functions.

  • Proactive, organised, and able to work independently in a fast-paced, international environment.

  • Right to work in the jurisdiction in which you are applying.
