Controller, where you'll oversee the organization's financial operations, provide strategic guidance to leadership, and ensure the accuracy and integrity of our accounting processes. What You'll DoFinancial Leadership- Direct all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, financial reporting, and month-end/year-end close.
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), company policies, and federal and state regulations.
- Develop and maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Monitor organizational cash flow and financial performance.
Financial Reporting & Analysis- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Develop executive-level financial reports and dashboards.
- Analyze financial results and provide recommendations to executive leadership.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning.
Accounts Payable & Vendor Management- Oversee the complete accounts payable function from invoice receipt through payment.
- Review invoices, expense reports, and payment requests for accuracy and compliance.
- Maintain vendor relationships and resolve payment discrepancies.
- Oversee corporate credit card reconciliations and expense management.
Payroll & Tax Compliance- Manage payroll processing and related accounting functions.
- Oversee payroll tax reporting and regulatory compliance.
- Manage annual 1099 and 1042 reporting requirements.
Grant & Contract Accounting- Oversee financial management of grants and government contracts.
- Monitor grant expenditures and funding compliance.
- Prepare grant financial reports and reimbursement requests.
- Support contract billing and financial analysis.
Audit & Compliance- Coordinate annual financial audits and prepare supporting documentation.
- Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with preparation of Form 990 and other required financial filings, as applicable.
Process Improvement- Lead accounting system implementations, upgrades, and ERP conversions.
- Evaluate accounting workflows and recommend process improvements.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and standard operating procedures.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency through automation and technology.
Leadership- Provide guidance, mentorship, and oversight to accounting staff.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Partner with department leaders to support organizational objectives and financial decision-making.
What We're Looking ForFinancial Expertise- Strong knowledge of financial accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, internal controls, and GAAP.
- Extensive experience managing accounts payable, payroll, month-end close, and financial statement preparation.
Leadership- Proven ability to lead accounting functions, prioritize competing deadlines, and drive operational improvements.
Analytical Thinking- Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze financial data and make strategic recommendations.
Communication- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present financial information to executive leadership.
Attention to Detail- Demonstrated commitment to accuracy, organization, confidentiality, and compliance.
Preferred Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role.
