WHO YOU ARE:The Data Steward serves as the operational leader for data governance within an assigned business domain. This role is responsible for ensuring the quality, consistency, security, and business usability of data assets while serving as the primary liaison between business stakeholders, Data Owners, Data Governance Working Groups, and technology teams.
Acting as the day-to-day expert and point of accountability for domain data, the Data Steward leads governance activities including metadata management, data quality oversight, data classification, issue remediation, data catalog management, and governance process execution. The role works closely with business and technology leaders to evaluate the impact of new initiatives, establish governance standards, and ensure trusted data is available to support business decision-making.
In addition to governance execution, the Data Steward helps shape governance practices, supports enterprise data management initiatives, and provides recommendations to improve governance maturity across the organization.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:Data Governance Leadership (Approximately 70%)- Serve as the primary steward and governance lead for assigned business data domains.
- Act as the first point of contact for stakeholders regarding data definitions, quality, governance requirements, and the impact of business initiatives on domain data.
- Lead the development and maintenance of business metadata, business glossaries, critical data element definitions, lineage documentation, and governance artifacts.
- Create initial governance recommendations and documentation for Data Governance Working Group review and approval, including metadata definitions, data classifications, security and sensitivity designations, data quality rules, business ownership recommendations, and governance processes and controls.
- Partner with Data Owners to establish governance priorities and ensure alignment with enterprise standards.
- Ensure governance requirements are embedded in business processes, projects, and technology initiatives.
- Support data literacy and governance awareness efforts.
- Partner with Business Analysts, Process Owners, Product Owners, and Technology teams to assess and govern changes impacting domain data.
Data Quality & Issue Management (Approximately 30%) - Establish and maintain data quality monitoring processes for assigned domains.
- Identify, assess, prioritize, and coordinate resolution of data quality issues.
- Lead root-cause analysis efforts and facilitate remediation planning with business and technology stakeholders.
- Monitor data quality metrics and provide regular reporting on performance, trends, and risks.
- Escalate risks and issues impacting business operations, regulatory compliance, or data integrity.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on increasing trust, consistency, and reliability of enterprise data.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL: - Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in data governance, data management, business analysis, data quality, reporting, analytics, or related disciplines.
- Demonstrated experience using SQL to query large datasets, create objects, and write stored procedures.
- Experience serving as a subject matter expert for business data domains.
- Experience leading data quality initiatives and managing data governance activities.
- Experience developing metadata, business glossaries, classification frameworks, and governance documentation.
- Experience influencing stakeholders and driving consensus across business and technology organizations.
- Strong analytical, facilitation, problem-solving, and communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:- Experience implementing or supporting enterprise data governance programs.
- Experience with data catalog, metadata management, master data management, and data quality platforms.
- Experience supporting finance, accounting, operations, customer, asset, or project-related data domains.
- Familiarity with data privacy, security, compliance, and records management requirements.
- Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or similar certification.
- Experience working within a formal data governance operating model.
- Experience working with cloud data platforms like Snowflake.
- Scripting experience (Python, or similar) for data profiling/automation

- Ability to operate independently with limited supervision while providing leadership within the governance organization.
