BW Field Service Technicians Keep the World's Packaging Lines Running
When a new packaging line needs to come to life, or a line is down and a customer is counting every minute, BW Packaging sends a Field Service Technician.
Field service team members are the experts on site. They bring new lines online, crack the problems others couldn't, train the people who run the machines every day, and hand off equipment running at full speed. You might support a can seamer at a brewery or a palletizer at a pet food plant.
Depending on the role, you may work regionally near your customers, deploy to large installations anywhere in the world, or build machines in our plants and follow them to the field. BW invests in your skills through hands-on and structured training, and as your skills grow, so does the work you take on.
Why You'll Like Working Here
- A guaranteed 40 hours of pay every week, plus overtime for long days and weekends on site
- Medical, dental, vision, PTO, starting on day one.
- 401(k) with company match and immediately vesting, company-paid life and disability insurance, paid parental leave, wellness and mental health resources and additional programs designed to support you and your family.
- Paid training on BW equipment and the chance to take on bigger, more complex work as your skills grow
- Work close to your customers, with chances to support projects across North America and around the globe
- Hands-on work with a wide range of equipment, including can seamers, fillers and cappers, form-fill-seal machines, baggers and flow wrappers, labelers, cartoners, case packers, palletizers, robotic cells, and fully integrated lines from our Perpetua automation and integration team, across dozens of industries
- Work that matters: your installs and fixes keep food, drinks, and medicine moving to store shelves
- Field service technical leads, engineers, controls specialists, and fellow techs are a call away when you need backup
- Leaders who listen, recognize great work, and care how you're doing, on the road and at home
- Field Service Technicians receive company-provided PPE and safety equipment, company-issued laptop and mobile phone, annual tool reimbursement, travel and per diem support while on assignment, branded apparel, and ongoing safety and technical training opportunities.
You'll Do Well Here If You
- Love being the one who figures it out
- Stay calm and systematic when a line is down and the customer is present
- Get creative when the obvious fix doesn't work, and find a practical solution that holds up
- Take ownership of your assigned schedule, efficiently plan travel, complete all required documentation accurately and on time.
- Truly enjoy learning new machines and control platforms
- Build trust with customers fast and represent BW with pride
What You'll Do
- Install and commission new and upgraded equipment, and run it until it hits speed and quality targets
- Diagnose and fix mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and controls problems to get lines back up fast
- Troubleshoot and modify PLC logic, and support customers remotely by connecting online to their equipment
- Train customer operators and maintenance teams until they can run and maintain the equipment on their own
- Support trials, retrofits, changeovers, preventive maintenance, and equipment audits
- Act as BW’s trusted technical advisor at customer sites, delivering expert support while proactively identifying upgrade, maintenance, and service opportunities that improve equipment reliability and performance.
- Share what you learn through service reports, root-cause findings, and equipment updates that keep our manuals, drawings, and programs current
- Put safety first for yourself, your team, and the customer's team
Senior Field Service Technicians also lead complex line commissioning and factory and site acceptance tests, direct site teams that include other OEMs and contractors, and mentor newer techs.
Ways you could be deployed:
- Regional: You'll live in your region and be our go-to tech for customers nearby, handling installs, fixes, and support, with trips across North America and beyond when projects call for it.
- Systems: You'll join large, complex line installations that run several weeks at a time, often with weekend layovers on site, anywhere in North America and around the world.
- Hybrid: You'll help build the machine in a BW plant, then follow it to the customer's site to install it, get it running, and train the team who will run it. You'll know every machine inside and out before it ships.
