Field Engineer Lead-Civil & Site Infrastructure-

The Lead Field Engineer-Mechanical & Piping will support a multi-year construction project involving significant civil, mechanical, piping, electrical, and site infrastructure construction.

Duties:

  • Provide field engineering support for grading, earthwork, demolition, storm drainage, sewer, water systems, and associated civil and site infrastructure construction.
  • Review drawings, specifications, procedures, work packages, surveys, and other technical documents to support field construction activities.
  • Provide technical interpretation and clarification of engineering requirements to Construction supervision and craft personnel.
  • Support excavation, grading, earthwork, fill placement, backfill, compaction, drainage, piping, demolition, and site development activities.
  • Support construction of storm drainage, sewer, domestic/service water, and other site piping and infrastructure systems.
  • Verify elevations, slopes, grades, alignments, excavation limits, and other construction requirements against approved design documents.
  • Identify drawing conflicts, field interferences, constructability issues, and discrepancies between design documents and actual field conditions.
  • Develop and/or coordinate Requests for Information (RFIs), field changes, technical questions, and resolution of construction issues.
  • Coordinate survey, testing, inspection, and technical requirements associated with civil and site construction.
  • Support resolution of soil, compaction, drainage, material, excavation, and installation issues encountered during construction.
  • Coordinate technical issues with Engineering, Construction, Quality, Survey, Procurement, Planning, subcontractors, and other project disciplines.
  • Coordinate with QC personnel regarding inspections, testing, hold points, acceptance criteria, and resolution of nonconforming conditions.
  • Support system and area walkdowns, punch-list resolution, as-built documentation, turnover, and construction completion activities.
  • Maintain field engineering documentation, technical correspondence, redlines, field changes, and other required construction records.
  • For Lead-level assignments, coordinate field engineering priorities, provide technical direction to Field Engineers, and serve as a primary technical interface between Engineering and Construction.


Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of field engineering, construction engineering, civil construction, or related industrial construction experience.
  • Experience supporting one or more of the following: grading, earthwork, excavation, demolition, storm drainage, sewer, water systems, utilities, or site infrastructure construction.
  • Working knowledge of civil construction methods, grading, excavation, backfill, compaction, drainage, piping installation, and site development.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, grading plans, profiles, specifications, procedures, surveys, and technical requirements.
  • Experience resolving field engineering, constructability, design, and installation issues.
  • Experience coordinating technical issues between Engineering, Construction, Quality, and Survey.
  • Knowledge of construction testing, inspection, and documentation requirements.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with large-scale industrial, heavy civil, infrastructure, DOE, nuclear, or highly regulated construction projects.
  • Experience with storm drainage, sewer, domestic/service water, and site piping systems.
  • Experience with mass excavation, engineered fill, grading, soil stabilization, compaction, and site development.
  • Experience supporting demolition and modification activities around existing facilities or infrastructure.
  • Experience with survey controls, elevations, alignment, and civil construction layout.
  • Experience with system testing, walkdowns, turnover, and as-built documentation.
  • Prior lead or senior Field Engineer experience preferred for Lead-level assignments.
  • Previous Savannah River Site or other DOE site experience.
