DescriptionAbout the RoleThe Lab Enablement role helps partner laboratories assess, implement, validate, and sustainably run molecular workflows that power biosurveillance and public health programs, including wastewater and environmental surveillance.
You will work directly with laboratory teams to assess readiness, transfer methods, deliver training, support validation, and troubleshoot challenges until new workflows run reliably as part of routine operations.
We are looking for someone who combines strong molecular laboratory expertise with a genuine ability and enthusiasm for teaching others. The ideal candidate can translate complex workflows into clear, practical guidance and adapt their approach to different environments, experience levels, and operational needs. They are collaborative, curious and solutions-oriented with the technical judgement to identify risks and recognize when additional expertise is needed.
This person should be comfortable with ambiguity, taking ownership of multiple projects at once, and work with partner laboratories and internal teams to turn evolving program needs into practical solutions. Above all, they should be motivated by helping laboratories build the knowledge, confidence, and processes to run their work sustainably.
Responsibilities- Lead technical scoping of partner laboratories, including equipment, staffing, and workflow fit, and support infrastructure assessments with internal specialists.
- Conduct operational assessments of existing workflows, processes, and requirements to determine readiness for implementation.
- Identify technical or operational gaps and help develop implementation and risk mitigation plans.
- Lead or support the transfer of molecular workflows, including sample processing, nucleic acid extraction, PCR-based testing, library preparation and sequencing.
- Develop and deliver hands-on and remote training tailored to each laboratory's needs and experience levels.
- Support development and execution of validation plans, review results against acceptance criteria, and assess readiness for routine operations.
- Provide ongoing technical support and troubleshooting for workflow, quality-control, and performance issues.
- Identify opportunities to optimize workflows and integrate new methods into existing operations without compromising quality.
- Coordinate with partners and internal teams to communicate readiness, resolve implementation challenges, and escalate issues when specialist input is needed.
- Advise internal program teams on laboratory requirements, workflow feasibility, validation and resource needs, and operational considerations for current and future programs.
Minimum Requirements- Bachelor's degree in molecular biology, microbiology, biotechnology, biomedical sciences, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience with molecular laboratory workflows, including PCR-based testing, NGS library preparation, and sequencing.
- 2+ years of experience training laboratory personnel
- Experience interpreting quality-control data and troubleshooting laboratory workflows.
- Strong technical communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with laboratory personnel and cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for laboratory assessments, training and implementation.
Preferred Capabilities & Experience- Experience transferring methods or workflows between laboratories.
- Experience developing or implementing SOPs and technical documentation.
- Experience working with international, public health, or government laboratory partners.
- Experience conducting laboratory scoping or capability assessments.
