Family Medicine Regional Medical Director - Region #3
Location: Aunt Martha's Kankakee Community Health Center, 1777 East Court Street, Kankakee, IL 60901
Regional Coverage: Chicago Heights Family, Chicago Heights-Vincennes, Kankakee, and Danville
Schedule: Full-Time, On-Site
Compensation: $240,000-$280,000 annually

Position Summary

The Family Medicine Regional Medical Director provides clinical leadership across the Kankakee Region while maintaining an active Family Medicine practice at the Kankakee Community Health Center.

This position serves as the primary point of clinical accountability between frontline providers and organizational leadership. The Regional Medical Director works closely with the Chief Medical Officer, regional operations and nursing leadership, Specialty Medical Directors, Human Resources, and clinical teams to advance quality, patient safety, provider engagement, access to care, and operational excellence.

The Regional Medical Director also serves as a voting member of the Clinical Leadership Council. Regular travel throughout the assigned region is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership across Region #3: Chicago Heights Family, Chicago Heights-Vincennes, Kankakee, and Danville
• Maintain an active Family Medicine clinical practice at the Kankakee Community Health Center.
• Monitor regional clinical quality measures and lead improvement efforts to meet or exceed national FQHC benchmarks.
• Lead clinical peer review, chart audits, patient-safety initiatives, and sentinel-event reviews.
• Support Joint Commission survey readiness and regulatory compliance.
• Meet regularly with physicians and advanced practice providers to support engagement, development, and retention.
• Partner with Human Resources and clinical recruitment leadership on provider recruitment, onboarding, and workforce planning.
• Collaborate with regional operations and nursing leadership to improve patient access, clinical workflows, and patient experience.
• Champion team-based care and Patient-Centered Medical Home models.
• Manage provider empanelment and support appropriate credentialing and privileging.
• Participate in site leadership meetings and regional planning activities.
• Strengthen connections between regional providers and Specialty Medical Directors.
• Identify service gaps and contribute to regional growth plans, grant-funded programs, and community health needs assessments.
• Attend monthly Clinical Leadership Council meetings and contribute to organizational clinical policies.
• Complete at least eight hours of leadership development annually.

Required Qualifications

• Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from an accredited medical school.
• Successful completion of an accredited Family Medicine residency program.
• Active and unrestricted Illinois medical license.
• Current and unrestricted DEA registration.
• Board certification in Family Medicine.
• At least two years of clinical experience with Aunt Martha's or a comparable Federally Qualified Health Center or community health organization.
• Demonstrated commitment to health equity and medically underserved communities.
• Ability to maintain an active clinical practice while fulfilling regional leadership responsibilities.
• Ability and willingness to travel regularly throughout the assigned region.
• No active disciplinary actions or unresolved peer-review findings.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading physicians, advanced practice providers, or multidisciplinary clinical teams across multiple locations.
• Experience with clinical quality improvement, peer review, and patient-safety programs.
• Familiarity with HRSA requirements, UDS and HEDIS measures, 340B, and Joint Commission standards.
• Experience with Patient-Centered Medical Home and team-based care models.
• Graduate education in public health or healthcare administration, such as an MPH or MHA.
• Experience recruiting, mentoring, developing, and retaining clinical providers.

• Strong clinical leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to lead and influence clinical teams across multiple locations.
• Ability to interpret clinical quality data and translate findings into measurable improvements.
• Understanding of multisite clinical operations and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to balance patient care with regional administrative leadership.
• Proficiency with electronic health records and clinical quality dashboards, or the ability to learn these systems quickly.
