Role Description

As the Supervisor of the Facilities Department, the candidate's role encompasses overseeing the efficient management and maintenance of SMBC workspace. This includes coordinating repairs, managing facility budgets, coordinating with vendors and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

This Critical Facilities Manager is responsible for the efficient operation, maintenance and security of critical infrastructure facilities, ensuring uninterrupted operation and adherence to safety and regulatory standards. This role involves managing a team, implementing best practices and overseeing facility performance to meet organizational objectives.

Responsibilities

  • North America leader accountable for the management and day to day oversight and safe operations of SMBC's North American Critical Facilities location with a focus on maintenance, testing, commissioning small minor project delivery, moves and changes, long term strategy preparation, supplier strategy, multiple business unit liaison including the SMBC Technology group and executive reporting.
  • Ensure that SMBC critical facilities maintains maximum uptime and coordinate with SMBC stakeholders when planned shutdowns are required.
  • Maintain and administer vendor maintenance contracts (ex. Generator, UPS systems, Battery system, Switchgear, ATS etc...)
  • Enable and lead continuous improvement and innovative approaches to the day-to-day operations, while maintaining appropriate governance and oversight of vendors and supplies. Manage and direct SMBC's project supplies to ensure they are aligned with SMBC objectives and compliant with SMBC policies, regulations and laws.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams including engineering, IT, and security to address operational challenges and implement improvements
  • Facilitate relationships throughout the business to better understand its operations and needs so that your solutions are tailored. Broaden your access to relevant resources, improve service and reduce costs through relationships with contractors and vendors. Improve workflows through internal relationships with other units such as finance, procurement and legal. Facilitate relationships with other property management functions to improve workflows and better understand project pipeline, building closures and other relevant events. Network within the industry through meetings, events and involvement with trade organizations to better understand emerging trends.
  • Oversee and implement mandates for all SMBC North America critical sites including main data centers and IT/LAN rooms.
  • Oversee and coordinate supporting service providers and maintenance contractors.
  • Overseeing the operation, maintenance and security of critical infrastructure such as data center, facilities and power plants.
  • Coordinate and facilitate all project day to day requirements, obligations including moves, changes and adds.
  • Participate and lead facility projects and initiatives.
  • Provide Support & SME on Major Initiatives:
  • Monitoring the planning, design and implementation of capital programs and acting as project SME on behalf of SMBC CRE and its service providers. Closely collaborate with service provider to ensure proper and contractual processes are implemented.
  • Ensure deployment of leading industry practices related to project delivery, including leaning of project delivery processes, value engineering. Decrease design and construction schedule by implementing proven delivery methods and processes)
  • Interface with building management, vendors, and cleaning staff.
  • Work off hours as needed, including some weekends.
  • Knowledge of facility maintenence or operations.
  • Provide clear and concise written and oral communication.
  • Ability to follow directions and keen attention to details.
  • Detail oriented and organized, ability to work on several projects simultaneously.
  • Ensures business continuity under all conditions, sometimes adverse with strict adherence to established guidelines and deadlines.
  • Training and supervising staff to maintain high standards of performance and professionalism.


Qualifications and Skills

  • Recommended over 15+ years of Real Estate/ Facilities experience with at least the last 5+ years in a senior role managing critical Facilities.
  • Proven leader with experience in building developing and leading a team of professionals who oversee outsourced project management arrangements.
  • Deep understanding of mission critical equipment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft or equivalent
  • Proven knowledge of all aspects of real estate projects including cost estimating, scheduling, construction contracts, value engineering, procurement methods and capital planning
  • Strong client focus and responsiveness to business needs and growth.
  • Well-developed communication and presentation skills including executive interaction and writing.
  • Experience in supplier and contract management
