Facilities Engineering Lead Location: Onsite - Marshfield, MO Reporting to: Infrastructure & DCO
Overview The Facilities Engineering Lead is responsible for the technical leadership, reliability, maintenance strategy, and engineering oversight of critical data center infrastructure. This role serves as the site's subject matter expert (SME) for electrical, mechanical, controls, and building systems, ensuring the facility operates safely, efficiently, and with maximum uptime. The Facilities Engineering Lead manages engineering programs, supports operational teams, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and provides technical leadership for maintenance, commissioning, and infrastructure projects. Critical infrastructure typically includes electrical distribution, UPS systems, generators, cooling systems, BMS/EPMS platforms, and other mission-critical equipment.Key Responsibilities Engineering Leadership
Provide technical leadership and guidance to facilities engineers, technicians, and contractors.
Serve as the primary engineering authority for all critical facility systems.
Develop engineering standards, operating procedures, and maintenance strategies.
Support site operational excellence initiatives and continuous improvement programs.
Critical Infrastructure Management
Oversee the operation, maintenance, and reliability of:
Medium- and low-voltage electrical distribution systems
UPS systems and battery plants
Standby generators and fuel systems
Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
Switchgear and power monitoring systems
Chillers, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC units
Building Management Systems (BMS)
Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS)
PLC and controls systems
Fire detection and suppression systems
Ensure critical infrastructure meets uptime, capacity, and reliability objectives.
Reliability & Maintenance Programs
Develop and optimize preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs.
Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for equipment failures and operational incidents.
Analyze system performance trends and implement reliability improvements.
Review maintenance procedures, MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs to ensure operational readiness.
Projects & Commissioning
Lead infrastructure upgrades, capacity expansions, and modernization projects.
Support commissioning and acceptance testing of new equipment and systems.
Review engineering designs, drawings, and technical specifications.
Coordinate with construction, commissioning, and operations teams to ensure successful project execution.
Safety & Compliance
Champion a culture of safety and operational discipline.
Ensure compliance with:
OSHA regulations
Electrical safety standards (NFPA 70E)
Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures
Environmental and regulatory requirements
Company engineering standards
Participate in audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews.
Vendor & Contractor Oversight
Manage engineering service providers and specialized contractors.
Review contractor work plans and technical deliverables.
Ensure maintenance and project activities are performed safely and according to approved procedures.
Monitoring & Controls
Oversee BMS, EPMS, and facility monitoring systems.
Support troubleshooting of controls, automation, and monitoring infrastructure.
Develop reporting and analytics to improve system performance and capacity planning.
Experience & Qualifications Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Facilities Engineering, or related discipline.
7+ years of experience in critical facilities, data center operations, power generation, utilities, or mission-critical environments.
3+ years of experience leading engineering teams, projects, or technical programs.
Strong knowledge of critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure systems.
Experience developing maintenance programs and engineering procedures.
Ability to read and interpret:
Single-line diagrams
Electrical schematics
Mechanical drawings
Control system diagrams
Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
Preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
Certified Data Centre Professional (CDCP), CDCMP, or similar data center certification.
Experience in Tier III or Tier IV data center environments.
Knowledge of commissioning processes and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM).
Experience with hyperscale or colocation data center operations.
Familiarity with liquid cooling technologies and AI/HPC infrastructure.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work in operational data center environments.
Ability to climb ladders, access equipment platforms, and lift up to 50 pounds.
Participation in after-hours incident response and on-call rotation.
Occasional travel to support projects and engineering initiatives.
