Job Summary:The Aluminum Extrusion Superintendent is responsible for the overall leadership, coordination, and performance of the extrusion operation and all supporting departments within the facility. This position reports directly to the Plant Manager and has oversight of Extrusion, Maintenance, Die Shop, Packing, and Paint Line operations. The Superintendent is responsible for ensuring all departments operate safely, efficiently, and in alignment with company expectations for safety, quality, delivery, cost, housekeeping, employee development, and continuous improvement. This role provides leadership to department supervisors and managers while driving accountability, operational excellence, and measurable continuous improvement across the plant.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:- Report directly to the Plant Manager and provide leadership across all assigned departments.
- Oversee the daily operations of Extrusion, Maintenance, Die Shop, Packing, and Paint Line.
- Ensure safety is the number one priority in all departments.
- Lead and enforce compliance with all company policies, safety procedures, work instructions, and department expectations.
- Drive plant performance in the areas of safety, quality, delivery, cost, productivity, and housekeeping.
- Hold department leaders, supervisors, and team members accountable for performance, communication, follow-through, and compliance with expectations.
- Coordinate all departments to ensure smooth production flow from extrusion through finishing, packing, and shipment.
- Work closely with the Plant Manager to establish priorities, address operational concerns, and support company objectives.
- Ensure production schedules are executed efficiently, and customer requirements are met.
- Partner with department leadership to address equipment performance, downtime, preventative maintenance, tooling readiness, staffing needs, and production issues.
- Oversee quality expectations throughout all areas to ensure product meets company and customer requirements.
- Support and lead continuous improvement efforts related to safety, quality, machine uptime, labor efficiency, scrap reduction, recovery, standard work, housekeeping, and overall process flow.
- Monitor department performance metrics and take corrective action when goals are not met.
- Ensure strong communication is maintained between all departments, all shifts, and plant leadership.
- Conduct regular audits and floor presence to verify safe work practices, housekeeping standards, employee performance, and operational discipline.
- Lead employee development through coaching, accountability, training, and performance management.
- Support investigations, corrective actions, disciplinary action, and follow-up related to safety, quality, attendance, performance, and operational issues.
- Promote a culture of urgency, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement throughout the facility.
- Enforce company rules, policies, and procedures in a firm, fair, and consistent manner.
- Participate in leadership meetings, production reviews, planning discussions, and plant improvement initiatives.

Continuous Improvement Expectations:- Identify recurring operational issues and lead structured improvement actions to eliminate root causes and prevent repeat problems.
- Use production data, downtime tracking, quality results, scrap/recovery performance, safety findings, and employee feedback to prioritize improvement opportunities.
- Lead cross-functional improvement projects involving Extrusion, Maintenance, Die Shop, Packing, Paint Line, Quality, and other support departments as needed.
- Develop and sustain standard work, audit processes, corrective actions, and follow-up systems to ensure improvements are maintained.
- Promote employee involvement in continuous improvement by encouraging problem identification, practical solutions, ownership, and follow-through at all levels.
Qualifications and Skills:- Minimum of 5 to 10 years of aluminum extrusion or related manufacturing experience is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of extrusion operations, maintenance coordination, die shop functions, packing processes, and paint line operations.
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and accountability skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple departments and priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to analyze production and operational performance and implement improvements.
- Experience with continuous improvement methods such as 5S, Lean manufacturing, root cause analysis, corrective action, standard work, and KPI tracking is preferred.
- Solid verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic math and computer skills.
- Ability to read and understand production, quality, and operational data.
Physical / Work Environment Requirements:- Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, noise, moving equipment, and production activity.
- Must be able to walk the plant floor for extended periods.
- Must be able to respond to issues across multiple departments and shifts as needed.
