Description

Markon is seeking an Expert Network Engineer to support an Intelligence Community client in Herndon, Virginia. The Network Engineer will work as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team providing technical subject matter expertise in network engineering, telecommunications, and communications modeling. This position will design, integrate, deploy, and support secure enterprise and field communications environments encompassing voice, video, data, LAN/WAN, RF communications, and other network technologies.

 

TRAVEL: The position may require up to 10% CONUS and 10% OCONUS travel, including travel to hazard areas as required. Travel requirements and duration are subject to customer mission needs.

Responsibilities
  • Provide network engineering and communications modeling subject matter expertise in support of U.S. Government missions.
  • Translate business requirements into telecommunications requirements, designs, and orders for LAN, MAN, WAN, voice, and video capabilities.
  • Develop complex network designs encompassing multiple technologies and technology layers across enterprise environments.
  • Incorporate INFOSEC and COMSEC security requirements into network architectures and engineering solutions.
  • Design and optimize network topologies and site configurations.
  • Plan installations, transitions, and cutovers of network components and capabilities.
  • Organize and direct network installations and site surveys.
  • Assess and document existing site network configurations and user requirements.
  • Evaluate emerging network technologies and provide recommendations regarding integration into existing network infrastructure.
  • Develop network designs and configurations that account for performance characteristics, network interconnect points, and optimal network performance.
  • Provide engineering and design support for the development and deployment of communications systems.
  • Research existing technologies and apply COTS/GOTS solutions to develop secure voice and data network infrastructure.
  • Evaluate and recommend COTS applications and methodologies that provide interoperable, portable, and scalable IT solutions.
  • Integrate communications system designs with network architectures to meet customer requirements.
  • Provide post-design support, including installation, configuration, and Tier III/IV operations and maintenance support for enterprise and field-deployed systems.
  • Configure, test, and maintain LAN, WAN, and system-level network infrastructure connected to enterprise architectures.
  • Create simulated network environments to test applications over low-bandwidth links.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity and performance issues.
  • Install and configure wide-area communications links utilizing RF technologies, including satellite, cellular, and microwave communications.
  • Provide technical briefings and communicate network designs, recommendations, and results to technical and non-technical audiences, including senior government personnel.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Must have an active TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph to be considered.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Equivalent experience may be substituted for the educational requirement.
  • 9+ years of relevant experience, including the following knowledge areas:
    • Knowledge of Cisco routing and switching and network architecture planning.
    • Knowledge of remote administration and secure Virtual Private Networking (VPN), including IPsec and SSL.
    • Understanding of commercial encryption standards and their application within IP networking.
    • Understanding of Private Branch Exchange (PBX) telephony, including Avaya/Nortel telephone switch interfaces.
    • Understanding of RF transport mediums, including cellular, microwave, and satellite communications.
    • Understanding of wired data transport mediums, including Category 5e/6 and fiber optics.
    • Ability to design small- to medium-scale voice, video, and data networks.
    • Familiarity and experience with encryption devices and industry-standard commercial encryption methods.
    • Knowledge of WAN technologies, including ISDN, POTS, satellite voice and data circuits, and terminal device configuration.
    • Understanding and experience applying RF communications systems, including HF, VHF, UHF, microwave, and VSAT systems.
    • Thorough understanding and experience applying routing protocols, particularly TCP/IP.
    • Experience configuring and utilizing networking devices, including routers, switches, and firewalls.
    • Familiarity with wireless standards and technologies, including GSM, CDMA, 802.11, and 802.16.
    • Experience with network test and analysis equipment, including spectrum analyzers, network sniffers, LAN/WAN simulation equipment, and COTS software.
    • Knowledge of network intrusion detection.
    • Ability to convey technical designs, ideas, and results to non-technical audiences and brief senior government personnel.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certification.
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certification.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Server administration.
  • Knowledge of service-oriented system design.

Salary RangeUSD $180,000.00 - USD $200,000.00 /Yr.The Markon pay range for this position is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
