Overview

The Executive Medical Science Liaison will prioritize contacts with key opinion leaders (KOLs), healthcare providers, and clinical investigators within an assigned U.S. region, providing advanced scientific exchange and generating actionable insights.

 

This role serves as a field-based extension of the Medical Affairs and Evidence Generation (MA&EG) organization, requiring a highly experienced professional who operates with independence, accountability, and execution focus in a fast-paced, performance-driven biotech environment.

 

The Associate Director is expected to deliver complex, data-driven scientific discussions, synthesize meaningful insights from the field, and navigate real-world clinical dynamics while maintaining a strong focus on regional ownership and high-impact engagement.

 

The role maintains and develops relationships across a range of stakeholders, including key opinion leaders, investigators, and as appropriate, large group practices and private equity-backed dermatology organizations, contributing to a broader understanding of evolving clinical and practice dynamics.

Responsibilities

Enhancing knowledge / scientific exchange:

  • Engages in advanced Medical-to-Medical scientific discussions including disease awareness, clinical data interpretation, and evolving treatment paradigms.
  • Demonstrates deep expertise in immunology and/or dermatology and communicates complex or emerging data clearly and effectively. Handles challenging or skeptical stakeholders with strong scientific rationale. Establishes credibility as a trusted scientific expert and resource internally and externally. Supports medical training for internal stakeholders as needed.
  • Adapts scientific exchange to diverse stakeholders, including high-volume community practices and organizational decision-influencers, while maintaining scientific integrity.

 

Insight gathering:

  • Responsible for synthesizing, communicating and proactively sharing actionable scientific insights from field engagement. Identifies trends in clinical practice, perceptions of data, and factors that influence treatment decisions.
  • Maintains strong alignment with home-office MA&EG partners, including HEOR and PRO, ensuring insights are shared in a way that is relevant, decision-oriented, and actionable. Contributes to improving overall insight quality by identifying key themes, gaps, and emerging priorities.
  •  Builds and maintains relationships with clinicians, investigators, and regional experts, including those within large group practices and private equity-backed dermatology organizations. Identifies trends in clinical practice, perceptions of data, and practical considerations influencing treatment decisions. Provides clear, concise, and decision-relevant insights reflective of real-world treatment dynamics.

 

Regional ownership / execution:

  • Responsible for planning and executing field activities within assigned territory. Prioritizes high-value engagements and demonstrates strong judgment in allocating time and resources.
  • Operates with a high level of accountability in a lean, fast-paced environment. Maintains a consistent field presence with disciplined execution and adaptability to changing priorities.

 

Cross-functional engagement

  • Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with home-office stakeholders across MA&EG, including HEOR, PRO, and other functional partners.
  • Ensures appropriate involvement of internal stakeholders in KOL and external engagement activities, facilitating alignment between field insights and organizational priorities.
  • Supports the field-based needs of Commercial (Marketing, Field Sales) and Market Access teams through compliant, science-based engagement.

 

Data generation/R&D SupportActs as a key scientific liaison between the organization and clinical investigators and study sites, supporting site identification, engagement, and scientific exchange.

  • Scientific engagement support:Provides scientific support for congresses, advisory boards, and other relevant external engagements. Maintains awareness of scientific literature, emerging research, and competitive landscape.
  • Acts as a key scientific liaison between the organization and clinical investigators and study sites, supporting site identification, engagement, and scientific exchange.
  • Supports clinical development efforts through trial awareness, site engagement, and enrollment support, and contributes to Investigator-Initiated Research (IIR) activities as appropriate.

Workstream leadership:

  • Leads defined field-based workstreams (e.g., congress execution, advisory board support, or regional initiatives), ensuring high-quality execution and alignment with organizational priorities.

Experience elevation / team contribution:

  • Demonstrates senior field leadership by modeling best practices in scientific engagement, insight generation, and stakeholder management.
  • Provides onboarding, coaching, and informal mentorship to new and developing MSLs. Serves as a resource for complex or escalated field situations and contributes to overall team effectiveness.

 

Broader stakeholder engagement (as applicable):

  • Participates in scientific discussions with larger practices, private equity-backed dermatology groups, health systems, and organizational stakeholders when appropriate.
  • Demonstrates awareness of factors influencing treatment decisions, including practice-level dynamics, access considerations, and healthcare delivery models.
  • May contribute to discussions where clinical evidence informs broader decision-making environments (e.g., payer-influenced or decision-support settings), while maintaining a primary focus on evidence-based scientific exchange and remaining within appropriate compliance boundaries.
Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • MD, NP, PA, PharmD, or PhD in a life science required
  • Specialization in Dermatology, Immunology, or Allergy required
  • Minimum of 5+ years of Medical Science Liaison experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in Immunology and/or Dermatology required
  • Proven ability to independently manage territory and navigate complex stakeholder interactions
  • Experience supporting or engaging with clinical investigators and research sites required
  • Experience working cross-functionally with MA&EG functions (e.g., HEOR, PRO) preferred
  • Experience supporting clinical development, commercial, or market access engagement preferred
  • Experience operating in a fast-paced biotech or resource-constrained environment strongly preferred

 

Compensation

The expected base salary range for this position is $153,616 - 245,387
