Overview

The Executive Director of Human Resources provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all human resources, talent development, and employee health functions across our healthcare facility. As a key partner to executive leadership, you will design and execute an overarching people strategy that supports high-quality patient care by driving recruitment, retention, workforce development, and cultural alignment.

In addition to traditional HR functions, this executive position holds full operational and strategic responsibility for Staff Education and Development, Workforce Development initiatives, Employee Health services, and the management of our two hospital-affiliated Wellness Centers (fitness facilities). This position reports directly to the hospital president.

Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Translate the hospital27s strategic and clinical goals into human resource initiatives. Serve as a trusted member of senior leadership on organizational design, workforce planning, and change management.
  • Staff Education & Development: Oversee the design, delivery, and tracking of hospital-wide educational programs, clinical training pathways, mandatory annual competencies, and leadership development pipelines.
  • Workforce Development: Oversee local workforce development pipelines, including partnerships with nursing schools, medical programs, residency pipelines, and community training organizations to address healthcare labor gaps.
  • Employee Health Services: Direct the Employee Health department to ensure robust onboarding medical screenings, annual clinical compliance (e.g., TB testing, vaccinations), workers' compensation management, and a safe clinical working environment.
  • Wellness Center Operations: Oversee the strategic direction, budgeting, and operations of the hospital27s two commercial/employee wellness and fitness centers, leveraging them as key recruitment, retention, and community health tools.
  • Talent Acquisition & Retention: Build aggressive recruitment strategies to navigate healthcare labor shortages, optimizing the pipeline for nurses, allied health professionals, physicians, and support staff.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain full compliance with federal, state, and local laws, as well as healthcare-specific standards including The Joint Commission (TJC) HR and education requirements, CMS regulations, OSHA, and HIPAA workforce mandates.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor27s degree in Human Resources, Healthcare Administration, Business, or a closely related field is required. A Master27s degree (MBA, MHA, or MS in Human Resources, Healthcare Management) is highly preferred.
  • Experience: 72D10+ years of progressive HR management experience, with at least 5 years in a healthcare or hospital system leadership role.
  • Expanded Expertise: Demonstrated experience oversight of multidisciplinary teams, including clinical education, occupational/employee health, or wellness/recreation facility management. Exceptional knowledge and experience with Federal and State guidelines and laws surrounding employment issues to ensure compliance.
  • Certifications: SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification is advantageous.
