Your RoleWe are looking for a hands-on, safety-driven Equipment Technician/Engineer to join our Organosilanes (OS) Group and support tool reliability, lab safety, and facilities support systems in our Tempe, AZ electronics R&D lab. This is a fast-paced, hands-on role in a changing R&D setting where you will work cooperatively with others toward common goals while independently resolving equipment issues and using outside resources as needed.
You do not need prior experience with every system, process, or technology listed in this posting. We are looking for a strong foundation in safe, hands-on semiconductor equipment operation and troubleshooting, sound professional judgment, and the ability to work effectively with a broader team. Role-specific systems, internal safety processes, chemical delivery equipment, life-safety systems, and laboratory support practices can be developed through training and hands-on experience in the role.

- Hands-on semiconductor equipment capability: Ability to independently operate, repair, troubleshoot, and perform preventive maintenance on commercial PECVD and FCVD systems, or closely related commercial deposition/etch equipment, to support reliable operation and maximum uptime. The work includes software-based system operation, manually loading and unloading 300 mm Si wafers in a cleanroom environment, and performing full wet cleans of PECVD and UV Cure process chambers as required.
- Professional judgment and teamwork: Ability to manage conflict and critical situations professionally, communicate clearly, and keep the broader team aligned and effective.
Responsibilities and Skills You Will Develop in the RoleWorking with the team and internal or external subject-matter experts, you will build site-specific knowledge and take increasing ownership of the following areas:
Safety- Conduct hazard assessments for tools, processes, and lab activities and support the EMD Electronics Hazard Assessment Process.
- Apply EMD specific Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) requirements during tool and equipment repairs where appropriate.
- Review contractor Work Plans and support compliance with the EMD Electronics Safety Work Permit (SWP) process.
- Safely operate and maintain commercial chemical delivery systems for toxic and reactive liquid and gas chemicals used in the semiconductor industry, including EMD Electronics ChemGuard and GasGuard systems.
Tool Operation, Maintenance & Support- Maintain inventories of critical laboratory and tool parts, including components for supporting equipment such as vacuum pumps and abatement systems, to minimize extended downtime.
Lab Organization & Facilities Support- Work with the Lab Manager and EMD PLC experts to maintain and modify the laboratory life-safety system as required.
- Maintain an appropriate inventory of critical life-safety equipment, including gas-sensor replacement components, to reduce the risk of extended downtime.
Communication & Documentation- Communicate tool and equipment status verbally and through daily passdowns.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and part inventories.
- Manage multiple tasks concurrently and prioritize work based on changing R&D needs.
Physical Requirements- Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs., work in awkward positions as necessary, and walk, stand, or sit for up to 8 hours.
- Work in a cleanroom-type laboratory environment for up to 8 hours and handle 300 mm Si wafers.
Who You AreMinimum Qualifications- 2+ years of experience with commercial deposition or etching platforms.
- 2+ years of experience working in a cleanroom environment.
- High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience using Microsoft software such as Excel and Word.
- Associate Degree in Electronics or military-equivalent experience.
- Experience handling toxic and reactive chemicals and gases common in the semiconductor industry.
- Experience operating commercial chemical delivery systems for toxic and reactive liquid and gas chemicals, such as EMD Electronics ChemGuard and GasGuard systems.
- Experience with Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO).
- Respirator Certification.
Pay Range for this position: $100,000-$110,000 per year.
The offer range represents the anticipated low and high end of the base pay compensation for this position. The actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level of experience, education, skills, and other job-related factors.
