Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Environmental Scientist to be based out of our Fort Collins or Denver office. This position will support our Remediation team within our Environment business line. This position is expected to begin within a month.

In this role, the selected applicant will be responsible for working on investigation and remediation projects while managing AECOM staff, subcontractors, technical delivery, stakeholder engagement/communication, and financial management.

The selected candidate will also assist project and program management with design and implementation of soil, groundwater, sediment and surface water investigative and remediation programs, data analysis, and report preparation.

This position will also assist in the performance of regulatory compliance inspections, sampling, and reporting associated with the implementation of permit and/or regulator requirements for commercial/industrial facilities.

The job responsibilities for this position will include but are not limited to:
  • Performs standard and more advanced scientific work requiring application of techniques and procedures.
  • Detect problems when using standardized procedures because of the condition of sample, difficulties with the equipment, etc.
  • Conducts specific phases of projects for more experienced scientists.
  • Proposes appropriate analytical methods and techniques. Assists in providing advice and consulting services within scope of scientific knowledge.
  • Draw conclusions and make recommendations based on analysis.
  • Collaborate with team members and project managers to meet client needs on schedule and within budget.
  • Utilize various techniques to generate data from remedial or investigative field work.
  • Field work includes but is not limited soil/groundwater/vapor sampling, soil boring/monitoring well installations with various drilling techniques (i.e., DPT, HSA, sonic, air rotary, mud-rotary, etc.), operations and maintenance of remedial systems, etc.
  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Mentor and train junior staff.
  • Work independently or with minimal direction to prepare draft technical documents.
  • Flexible with working extended hours and locations, travel may be greater than 50 percent of time (local to Colorado however).


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • BA/BS + 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Valid U.S Driver's License and as a condition of employment, must pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records Review
  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Medical Surveillance is required
  • Successful candidates must pass a pre employment drug screen

Preferred Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience performing and leading site investigations that included soil/groundwater/vapor sampling, soil boring/monitoring well installations with various drilling techniques analytical data interpretation and reporting.
  • Understanding of site assessment and remediation associated with upstream oil and gas sites.
  • Knowledge of Colorado ECMC regulations.
  • Experience with groundwater modeling and numeric computing environments
  • Current Professional Licensure, certifications, and/or accreditations
  • Familiarity with Colorado and Federal Environmental Regulations
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training certification.
  • Experience and confidence to work independently to produce high-quality deliverables on time and on budget.
  • Proficient technical writing (remedial investigation reports, corrective action studies, etc.)
