Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and 5S Coordinator

What You'll Do

Under the direction of the EHS/Maintenance Manager, the EHS and 5S Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of environmental, health, and safety as well as the maintenance of the plant's 5S program. This person will provide oversight and guidance to implement EHS programs for the Tonawanda plant. This person needs to have an elevated degree of initiative required to research the applicable safety standards, sound decision-making skills for prioritization of work, and sound communication skills to lead training and promote employee involvement in EHS programs. This person will report directly to the EHS/Maintenance Manager with a dotted line, as needed, to the Plant Manager in Tonawanda.

  • Lead efforts to report and document all safety incidents including unsafe acts/conditions and near misses
  • Organize implementation of EHS and 5S policies and programs with successful sustainable results
  • Demonstrate a high aptitude of understanding of EHS and 5S rules and regulations and host visits from regulatory agencies as required
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, rank inherent concerns via a risk matrix and continuously work to address
  • Provide initial company safety orientation and all necessary training for new hires
  • Serve as a resource and an example for all employees relative to EHS and 5S procedures, issues, and programs
  • Mentor, teach, and guide employees in foundational safety items such as LOTO, working from heights, etc.
  • Develop and implement or assist with site specific EHS and 5S related training programs, including oversight of LMS including scheduling all LMS training and ensuring it is completed on time
  • Oversee maintenance of the OSHA 300 log and other applicable internal reporting requirements
  • Chair Safety Committee, attend/lead monthly meetings, conduct safety audits including job safety analysis and regular safety Gemba walks
  • Communicate status of safety at site regularly via scorecard and pertinent KPIs


What You'll Need

To be successful in this position, you must:

  • Possess a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in EHS and 5S
  • Have a bachelor's degree in a technical or EHS related field, is preferred
  • Be able to promote employee involvement in the EHS programs
  • Be able to demonstrate competency of OSHA CFR 1910 regulations and interpretations and be familiar with implementation and sustainment of 5S standards
  • Establish and maintain relationships with supervisors, plant management, operations, and external customers
  • Be able to work closely with Human Resources on people related issues, including workers compensation claims

Washington Mills aims to deliver a comprehensive compensation package. The compensation provided is the national pay range for this position of $65,000.00 - $800,000.00 per year depending on experience. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
