We are currently seeking an Environmental Engineer to support a wide variety of water projects and can sit in Los Angeles or Irvine CA. The preferred candidates will have a strong background in conveyance with site/civil design experience related to water projects. The preferred candidate will perform well in a task leader/task manager role and have a desire to advance their career as either a project technical leader or project manager.
As a member of this team, you would contribute to CDM Smith's mission by:
• Managing tasks on large projects or phases of small projects.
• Supports moderate complexity water and wastewater treatment facilities, water and sewer systems, pipelines, pump stations, remediation sites, solid waste facilities, etc. engineering designs to meet client project requirements.
• Reviews draft designs and reports for compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
• Ensures that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.
• Performs site reviews and studies, as needed, to ensure designs are aligned with location specifications.
• Updates design requirements as necessary.
• Performs water quality analyses and modeling.
• Contributes to firm's TKM by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc.. Submits technical papers and designs for publishing to technical journals.
• Collaborates with sales staff to create proposals in response to current and potential client requests for proposal (RFPs).
• Reviews draft proposals for adherence to firm, industry, state, local and federal regulations and best practices. • Meets with current and potential future clients to review their current and future design needs.
• Attends conferences, symposia, etc. to improve the visibility of the firm's products and services in collaboration with applicable sales staff.
• Provides technical guidance and training to more junior staff.
• Mentors more junior staff and develops them for future growth within the discipline and firm.
• May supervise the work of junior engineers on project work.
• Performs other duties as required.
Skills & Abilities
• Demonstrated experience leading water-related engineering projects.
• Proven ability to guide teams of engineers and scientists.
• Strong technical expertise in water and wastewater infrastructure design.
• Commitment to high-quality work, client service, and professional development.
• Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices.
• Knowledge of engineer principles of design. Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.).
• knowledge of state and local regulations
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline. Professional engineering (PE) license. 7 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications
• Team player, excellent written and verbal skills.
• Client-focused and ability to partner with clients
• Negotiation and presentation skills
• 5-10 years of experience, most if not not all in consulting with design experience
• Design experience can be in water/wastewater treatment and/or civil site engineering
• Ability to lead teams and mentor/supervise younger professionals on design projects
• PE license in CA

Additional Pay Range Information
CDM Smith is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. This pay range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels for the geographic location assigned to the position. In addition to geographic location, a candidate's salary is determined by several other factors including, but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, relevant work experience, skills, required certifications, and education/training.
Additional Compensation
All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
