Overview

This role is responsible for defining and advancing the enterprise architecture strategy and vision across Old National Bank, in partnership with and reporting to the Chief of Architecture. The candidate maintains core architecture artifacts across domains (e.g., capability maps, application maps, technology roadmaps), develops architecture vision and implementation roadmaps, and is accountable for the quality, consistency, and performance of the enterprise architecture.

As a technical expert and authority within the financial services industry, this position applies leadership and advice across multiple technologies and drives standardization, simplification, and integration in the bank's technical strategies. The candidate owns the architecture standards, governance, and review processes that guide how technology is built, executed, and delivered at the bank.

Identifying and applying key industry trends in processes, methodologies, and tools is also expected. In addition to technical expertise, the candidate leverages strong communication and relationship-building skills, working with IT leaders and business executives across the bank to gain stakeholder buy-in through effective communication and influence.

 

Salary Rang

           The salary range for this position is $127,900 - $258,600 per year. Final compensation will be determined by location, skills, experience, qualifications and the career level at which the position is filled. 

 

Key Accountabilities

Strategic and technical acumen

  • Advise the Chief of Architecture and the CIO leadership team on matters of technical strategy to ensure the bank has a clearly defined technology and service strategy aligned with the long-term strategic goals of the business.
  • Ensure the documentation of all architecture design and analysis work, and lead the development and execution of a communication and education plan for the enterprise architecture.
  • Lead and conduct technology governance of enterprise solutions through architecture review processes, including an enterprise architecture governance committee, establishing review thresholds, decision rights, and escalation paths.
  • Own the enterprise application portfolio and its lifecycle, applying application portfolio management disciplines and tooling. In partnership with business and IT owners, establish metrics to measure the health of line-of-business application portfolios and drive rationalization, modernization, and investment decisions.

Delivery of key business initiatives from concept to implementation

  • Support the delivery of key business initiatives from concept to implementation.
  • Drive ongoing improvements to quality, security, and application performance.
  • Provide subject matter expertise across technology domain areas, such as cloud, enterprise integration, security, core banking, and payments.
  • Maintain an ongoing awareness of emerging trends and developments in technology.
  • Plan and drive short- and long-term strategies for retiring certain legacy tools, technologies, and applications.

Governance and standards

  • Define, publish, and maintain enterprise architecture standards, principles, and reference architectures, and ensure their consistent application across lines of business.
  • Establish and steward the architecture governance framework (e.g., TOGAF), including architecture compliance, architecture contracts, and roadmap alignment appropriate to a regulated financial institution.
  • Lead the architecture community of practice, coaching and aligning solution and domain architects to common standards regardless of their reporting line.

Leadership and Management

  • Manage resource utilization effectively and hold the architecture function accountable to achieve expectations.
  • Manage relationships with strategic partners to identify new and innovative ways to deliver business outcomes with technology.
  • Engage and gain the trust of all pertinent stakeholders including senior business executives, product managers, business analysts, development managers, and technical experts.
  • Assist in the financial management of the department fiscal plan.
  • Conduct financial and estimation reviews, and review vendor contracts/SOWs as needed.

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, systems analysis, or a related field of study, or equivalent experience.
  • Fifteen or more years of experience in some combination of the following disciplines: business or information solutions, technical architecture, application development, middleware, information analysis, and database management.
  • Financial services / banking industry background, including familiarity with the regulatory environment governing financial institutions.
  • Familiarity with information management practices, system development life cycle management, IT service management, infrastructure and operations, and EA and ITIL frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with an EA governance framework (e.g., TOGAF or Zachman) and with facilitating an enterprise architecture governance committee or equivalent architecture review process. Relevant framework certification preferred.
  • Experience with application portfolio management tooling and practices.
  • Knowledge of business ecosystems, SaaS, IaaS, PaaS, SOA, APIs, open data, microservices, event-driven IT, predictive analytics, and emerging generative and agentic AI capabilities.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally as required to support enterprise initiatives and stakeholder engagement.
