Full Job Description
Lapeyre Stair is seeking a hands-on, highly technical engineering leader to lead our engineering organization and serve as the senior technical authority for our custom industrial stair systems. This role blends deep structural fabrication expertise, customer-facing leadership, and operational execution-owning the full lifecycle from concept and configuration through fabrication and delivery.

This is a builder role. You will lead a small team of SolidWorks designers, work directly in CAD and ERP tools, engage customers as Lead Engineer. Engineering at Lapeyre Stair is not a back-office function-it is a core driver of customer confidence, manufacturability, margin, and scalability.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements

Responsibilities
• Serve as the senior technical authority for industrial stairs, platforms, handrails, and welded structural assemblies.
• Lead the development and review of SolidWorks models, assemblies, and fabrication drawings to ensure quality, clarity, and manufacturability.
• Establish and maintain engineering best practices for structural integrity, tolerances, welding, material selection, and installation requirements.
• Act as the escalation point for complex engineering, design, and production issues.
• Serve as Lead Engineer on key customer accounts and high-complexity projects.
• Work directly with customers to define requirements, answer technical questions, and deliver engineered solutions.
• Partner with Sales to support technical scoping, solution selling, risk identification, and winning project strategies.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of SolidWorks designers while creating clear processes for design intake, reviews, revisions, and drawing release.
• Build team capability and accountability through coaching, structure, and a culture of ownership and practical problem-solving.
• Improve engineering systems and automation by working hands-on with SolidWorks, DriveWorks, and ERP to strengthen configurator logic, BOM accuracy, and engineering-to-production data flow.
• Partner closely with fabrication and operations to support production readiness, improve handoffs, and drive continuous improvement in efficiency, quality, scalability, and lead time. Meeting business plan objectives and set performance standards and goals for the team
• Promoting the Laitram Continuous Improvement culture
• Collaborate with leadership on product innovation

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Structural, or related Engineering field
• 5+ years of experience in industrial or structural fabrication engineering
• Deep hands-on experience with SolidWorks (assemblies, drawings, configurations)
• Strong background in custom fabrication (stairs, platforms, railings, welded assemblies preferred)
• Proven experience leading and mentoring engineering or design teams
• Demonstrated success in customer-facing engineering roles
• Experience working with ERP systems in a manufacturing environment, Epicor preferred

Highly Preferred
• Deep hands-on experience with DriveWorks
• Experience with DriveWorks or rules-based product configurators
• Background in ETO / CTO engineered-to-order fabrication
• Familiarity with applicable structural and safety standards (AISC, OSHA, IBC)
• Experience evolving legacy or analog engineering and production processes
