What You Would Do in This RoleThe Engineering Manager (EM) is responsible for implementing the execution strategy and stewarding engineering budgets and schedules. The EM ensures proper communication and coordination between engineering disciplines. This position coordinate with the department managers to ensure project and program (multiple projects) engineering teams are appropriately staffed. The EM develops client-specific work processes, aligned with Vista's applicable process and procedures, as necessary to support the program.
Duties of the role include:
- Working with the Calgary team, determine target markets, and potential clients within those markets
- Using and maintaining the Hubspot customer relations management system
- Attending meetings with the BD team and reporting on any new or developing opportunities
- Approaching potential clients through cold calls or industry functions, or by leveraging relationships from past dealings
- Conducting meetings, presentations, lunches, or other social outings to build relationships with potential or existing clients
- Ensuring Vista is put on the bid list of potential client projects, or is identified as a preferred supplier of engineering services
- Preparing professional, competitive proposals and information packages upon receipt of RFPs when requested
- Conducting lessons-learned sessions with members of the proposal team for both won and lost bids
- Planning and prioritizing personal sales activities and client contacts towards achieving agreed business goals
- Conducting market research, competitor analysis and client surveys
- Understanding the competition for each proposal or shortlisting of bids
- Identifying opportunities (via in-depth regional market knowledge) to expand the range of services
- Providing input into client functions, advertising, trinket items and the like
- Being aware of and participating in reviews of the quality objectives
- Assisting leadership with manpower planning as impacted by potential won/lost bids
- Providing customer feedback to the management team for Quarterly Reviews
- Relying on experience, networking, and judgement to plan and accomplish goals
- Supporting ad-hoc strategic initiatives
- Performing other duties as requested
Requirements- Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering or applied science
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA
- Ability to be registered as a Responsible Member with APEGA
- Minimum 15 years of relevant engineering experience, including demonstrated experience leading teams and/or projects
- Proven ability to manage and coordinate multi-disciplinary engineering teams
- Strong knowledge of engineering project execution, planning, scheduling, resource management, and change management
- Strong understanding of applicable engineering codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Demonstrated ability to develop project plans, coordinate technical activities, and manage competing priorities
- Strong client relationship, communication, negotiation, and conflict-management skills
- Strong organizational, technical, and decision-making skills with attention to detail
- Strong business awareness and experience supporting strategy development and execution
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to meet applicable safety requirements for site visits
Preferred- Master of Business Administration (MBA)
- At least five years in BD or sales roles with a focus on oil and gas
- Experience negotiating commercial agreements involving EPC / EPCM
