Full Job Description
Engineering Manager, Platform
Doctronic | New York City or San Francisco (hybrid) | Full-time

The role

We are hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the team responsible for the systems used to build, deploy, observe, and operate Doctronic. Your team will improve production reliability and make every engineer more effective.

This is a hands-on management role. You will set direction, develop engineers, guide architecture, and contribute directly to platform code and operations. You will be accountable for engineering enablement, reliability, security, and infrastructure cost.

We expect engineering leaders to work AI-natively. You will make agents and automation a normal part of planning, implementation, review, debugging, and operations. Your team will improve the context, tooling, validation, and guardrails that help agents complete useful work safely.

What you will do
  • Lead and grow a team of platform engineers through clear goals, feedback, coaching, and high standards.
  • Set priorities with application, AI, data, security, and product teams based on engineering impact.
  • Improve the reliability, scalability, and operation of production services. Reduce the time and effort required to build, test, deploy, and operate software.
  • Guide key technical decisions and contribute directly to platform code, infrastructure, and automation.
  • Build an AI-native engineering environment with agent-ready repositories, clear interfaces, automated validation, and reusable workflows.
  • Improve how agent work is scoped, supplied with context, verified, and turned into reusable automation.
  • Track delivery speed, CI performance, reliability, self-service adoption, and operational load.
  • Lead incident response and ensure that follow-up work produces durable improvements.
  • Hire strong engineers and build a team that can take on broader scope as Doctronic grows.

What we are looking for
  • Experience managing and developing platform, infrastructure, or developer productivity engineers.
  • A strong technical background and current ability to contribute production code, infrastructure, and automation.
  • The judgment to evaluate architecture, reliability, security, cost, and delivery tradeoffs.
  • A record of turning ambiguous company needs into clear priorities and shipped improvements.
  • Experience improving developer environments, CI/CD, observability, service templates, or internal engineering tools.
  • Daily experience using coding agents and a clear view of where they improve engineering work and where human judgment remains essential.
  • Evidence that you have improved engineering throughput without lowering quality.
  • Experience hiring, coaching, giving direct feedback, and helping engineers grow.
  • Clear communication across engineering and company leadership.

Many candidates will have eight or more years of engineering experience, including two or more years managing engineers. We care more about the teams and systems you improved than a specific title or exact tool match.

Experience with AI infrastructure, regulated systems, disaster recovery, or high-traffic applications is useful but not required.

Technical context

Our infrastructure runs on AWS. We use ECS and ECR for container workloads, Terraform and Terragrunt for infrastructure as code, GitHub Actions for CI/CD, and CloudWatch for monitoring. The broader environment includes RDS, DocumentDB, Redis, S3, CloudFront, Application Load Balancers, IAM, and Secrets Manager. Most automation is written in Python or shell.

How we work
  • A small, senior engineering team with high autonomy.
  • Application teams own the services they ship.
  • Platform makes that ownership easier with shared infrastructure, tools, and standards.
  • Managers are responsible for team health, technical quality, and delivery outcomes.
  • High standards for patient safety, privacy, reliability, and code quality.

Compensation and benefits
  • New York City and San Francisco base salary: $200,000 to $300,000, plus equity.
  • Benefits reimbursement.
