Our Defense team in Salt Lake City, UT, is eagerly looking for an Engineering Manager to join their dynamic team. The Site Engineering Manager will lead a multidisciplinary team of supervisors, manufacturing/process engineers, and technicians supporting circuit card assembly (CCA) production and new product introductions at our Salt Lake City Circuit Card Assembly plant. As a key member of the site leadership team, you will drive technical excellence, process reliability, and on-time delivery while operating within a lean, continuous-improvement culture. The role focuses on maximizing yield and throughput for SMT, through-hole, reflow/wave solder, AOI/X-ray inspection, and test processes while maintaining strict quality and ESD controls / programs. The Site Engineering Manager will operate within a lean, continuous improvement environment, consistently driving toward 100% Quality and 100% Delivery.

This is an on-site, collaborative working environment that offers a 9/80 schedule to include every other Friday off! (Formal schedule is Mon - Thurs, 7:00am - 4:00pm, every other Fri 7:00am - 3:00pm)

As our Engineering Manager,you will add incredible value to the team by holding responsibility for:
  • Lead and develop site engineering organizations. Supervise, coach, and mentor supervisors, engineers, and technicians; manage staffing, performance reviews, and career development.
  • Define, document, and optimize process flows for SMT, through-hole, conformal coating, soldering, inspection (AOI/X-ray), and in-circuit/functional test.
  • Lead root-cause investigations and corrective actions for yield, reliability, and field failures using structured problem-solving (8D, DMAIC, 5 Whys).
  • Implement statistical process control (SPC), capability studies (Cp/Cpk), DOE, and other data-driven methods to improve process stability and reduce variation.
  • Maintain and improve compliance to industry and customer standards (IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, MIL/AS/ISO/AS9100 as applicable).
  • Oversee equipment qualification, maintenance strategies, capital projects, and tooling/fixture design to meet production and quality goals.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Production, Quality, Supply Chain/Purchasing, Program Management, and Design Engineering to resolve issues and drive program success.
  • Support customer engagements, including failure analysis, technical presentations, and proposals; act as engineering point of contact for customer escalations.
  • Prepare and manage engineering budgets and project cost estimates; prioritize investments to align with site strategy.
  • Ensure EHS and ESD program compliance across engineering activities.


To be considered for this Engineering Manager role, here's what you'll need to bring with you:
  • Education & Experience: BS in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of Manufacturing/Engineering experience in Electronics/CCA assembly.
  • Hands-on experience with SMT processes (pick-and-place, reflow), through-hole soldering, AOI, X-ray, and electronics test (ICT/flying probe/functional test).
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing engineering teams in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and data analysis skills; experience with SPC, DOE, and process capability analysis.
  • Familiarity with IPC standards (IPC-A-610, J-STD-001) and ESD control practices.
  • Excellent communication skills and proven ability to work cross-functionally with production, quality, purchasing, and customers.
  • Commitment to lean/continuous improvement principles.

It would be great if you also had:
  • IPC certifications (e.g., IPC-610, J-STD-001) or IPC CID.
  • Experience with AS9100, ISO 9001, or other regulated quality systems.
  • Six Sigma Green/Black Belt or equivalent continuous improvement certification.
  • Experience managing capital projects and equipment qualifications in a CCA environment.
  • Prior experience in aerospace, defense, medical, or other highly regulated electronics manufacturing.


Working Conditions & Travel
  • Onsite, production-floor environment with standard PPE and ESD controls.
  • May require occasional travel to suppliers, customers, or other company sites.

Salary Range Transparency:
Salt Lake City, UT $145,000.00-$180,000.00 Annually
