Job DescriptionEngineering Managers within our Technology organization play a pivotal role in creating an inspiring workplace where talented professionals are empowered to deliver outstanding digital experiences and business results. As the Engineering Manager for Digital Insights & Delivery, you will lead the team that owns the data behind how Nordstrom measures its digital business — from raw web and app activity to the behavioral analytics that power demand forecasting, conversion reporting, search and browse performance, and the digital KPIs leadership watches every day. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can bring engineering discipline, stakeholder credibility, and a clear point of view to a domain that directly shapes how Nordstrom makes decisions about its digital business.
Role Summary…
The Engineering Manager for Digital Insights & Delivery leads a small, high leverage team of senior data engineers and analysts who build the pipelines, data models, and reporting that sit underneath Nordstrom's digital decision-making. Reporting to the Director of Data Engineering, you will own the team's strategy, delivery, and stakeholder relationships across product, marketing analytics, and the web and app platform teams. You will define and drive alignment on a coherent digital analytics strategy — getting the business working from a single trusted source of digital truth.
This role is based in Seattle, WA on a hybrid schedule, working with a distributed team.
A Day in the Life…
- Define how Nordstrom measures its digital business. You'll set the technical direction for how behavioral data is captured across web and app, processed into the datasets the business trusts, and turned into the KPI reporting leadership uses to make decisions — then build alignment across product, marketing analytics, and platform teams to make it real.
- Lead a team of senior engineers and analysts — setting clear expectations for technical quality, developing the engineers on your team into technical leaders, and creating the conditions for people to do their best work.
- Own a high-scale data platform that turns raw web and app interactions into session-level behavioral data in near real time — keeping it reliable at massive scale and evolving it to meet a growing appetite for digital analytics.
- Raise the standard for data modeling, transformation, and data quality so problems are caught before stakeholders ever see them, and the team's data is something the business can build on with confidence.
- Bring delivery discipline that the team and its partners can count on — shaping clear priorities, committing to dates, and consistently hitting them on work the business is waiting on.
- Be the face of the team to the business — translating complex data work into clear business value for partners across merchandising,
- marketing, customer, and digital strategy, and representing the team's needs to leadership.
You Own This If You Have…
- 5+ years of relevant work experience in data engineering.
- 2+ years of experience managing engineering teams, or strong tech-lead experience ready to step into people management.
- Depth in data engineering — building and operating data pipelines at scale with strong SQL, a modern cloud data stack, distributed systems, and event streaming
- Hands-on experience with digital, behavioral, or clickstream data — web and app analytics at scale.
- Demonstrated agile delivery discipline: a team that ships what it commits to, on the date it commits to.
- A track record of influencing without authority and communicating with candor — aligning product, engineering, and business partners with competing priorities, and raising concerns early with solutions in hand.
- BA/BS in Computer Science or a closely related field, or equivalent practical experience.
We're also looking for...
- A point of view on digital analytics strategy — how a retailer should collect, govern, and report web and app data.
- Hands-on experience with web analytics platforms (e.g., GA4) and modern BI/reporting tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau).
- Experience with cloud data warehousing and modern transformation tooling (e.g., BigQuery, dbt).
- Experience leading a migration (cloud, BI tool, or data-modeling) end to end.
