Full Job Description
We are hiring an Engineering Lead to build and run the Logistics and Transportation product on the Avathon platform. You will lead the team that brings shipment, carrier and TMS data into the platform, predicts delays, traces their impact on production, and lets AI agents manage exceptions. The hard problems are messy data from many carriers and systems, near real-time event processing, and linking a late truck to the work orders it affects. This is a hands-on lead role in Product Engineering. You will write code, own the architecture, and lead a team of engineers.
You Will
Architecture and Build
• Own the technical architecture for logistics services: shipment and event models, ETA services, exception workflows and routing
• Build and maintain integrations with TMS platforms, carrier and 3PL APIs, EDI feeds and visibility providers
• Build streaming pipelines that process shipment events in near real time and keep shipment state accurate
• Productionize ETA, anomaly detection and routing models built with our AI scientists
Platform Integration
• Model shipments, lanes, carriers and orders in the Computational Knowledge Graph so a delay can be traced to the production orders and parts it affects
• Work with the agent team on exception management: detect, prioritize, recommend and route to the right team
• Turn customer-specific integrations into reusable connectors and product components
Team Leadership
• Lead and grow a team of engineers; set priorities, review designs and code, and mentor
• Partner with the Logistics product manager on roadmap, scope and release planning
• Own quality, performance and reliability for logistics services in production
• Work with forward deployed teams on customer go-lives and escalations
You'll Have
• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years leading engineers
• Built transportation, logistics or visibility software, ideally at a vendor such as Oracle (OTM), Blue Yonder, Manhattan Associates, e2open, project44, FourKites, Descartes, Flexport or Samsara
• Strong backend skills in Python, Java, Go or similar, with experience building APIs and integrations
• Experience with event streaming and real-time data (Kafka, Pub/Sub or similar)
• Working knowledge of EDI, carrier APIs, TMS data models and freight operations
• Experience with cloud platforms (GCP or AWS); geospatial data and graph data models are a plus
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field
Compensation
Pay Range: $160,000-$220,000 salary annually. Pay for this position is based on a number of factors including geographic location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
Location: This role is not remote. Candidates must be based in the Bay Area, CA and are expected to report to our Pleasanton office 5 days a week.
