Engineering Generalist, R&DThe R&D TeamFluidstack's R&D organization designs the next generations of our data center product: modular builds, new cooling and power architectures, and the lab-to-field pipeline that turns prototypes into deployable capacity. The team spans mechanical, electrical, controls, and compute engineering, working with manufacturing and supply chain to move designs from first article to repeatable production at gigawatt scale.
Examples of key problems the team is working on- Running several first-of-a-kind power and cooling pilots at once without letting any of them stall.
- Keeping every engineering team pointed at the same priorities as the product and the company change quickly.
- Getting the data in front of leadership fast enough to make technical bets with confidence.
Role Scope- Be the right hand to the Head of Development Engineering. Work side by side with the head of R&D, take their highest-priority problems off their plate, and drive each one to a decision or a delivered result.
- Drive initiatives across the organization. Own cross-team efforts from first scoping to done, and do whatever the work needs, from analysis and vendor calls to schedules and follow-up, so the team moves fast.
- Coordinate across every engineering team. Work directly with each engineering team and its leader to line up projects, pilots, and R&D efforts so priorities, owners, and dates stay clear.
- Shape technical direction. Build the first-order analysis leadership needs to set the company's technical direction, and carry decisions back into the teams that execute them.
- Run the operating rhythm. Own the R&D leadership cadence: agendas, decisions, action items, and status reports that name what is slipping and what it takes to recover.
What We're Looking ForThe below is a starting point. We always make space for exceptional people, so if you don't fit this role exactly, tell us where you would.- 3-7 years of experience in engineering, technical program management, consulting, or operations, ideally around hardware, energy, or infrastructure.
- An engineering or technical degree, or equivalent hands-on technical depth.
- You want a steep learning curve and broad exposure to how an R&D organization is run, and you are ready to work hard to get it.
- You are comfortable in an engineering conversation and build your own first-pass models and analysis.
- You write clearly and keep senior people informed without being chased.
- You take on any task the team needs, learn new domains fast, and are open about what you do not know yet.
- Low ego and self-directed: you manage your own work, manage upward, and keep things moving without being asked.
- Bonus: Experience at a startup or on a first-of-a-kind project. Exposure to power, cooling, or data center systems.
We are committed to pay equity and transparency.
