Full Job Description
Engineering Business Development Professional - Industrial, Energy & Infrastructure

Charlotte, NC / Atlanta, GA / Raleigh, NC

We invite you to join Ramboll's advanced manufacturing organization, securing and developing engineering projects across the Southeast US with a focus in North and South Carolina. In this role you will work alongside seasoned business developers and engineers to build our position with the industrial manufacturers, power developers and data center operators driving one of the fastest-growing industrial corridors in the United States.

Job Description

Your key tasks and responsibilities

Business development
  • Develop key accounts and markets in Ramboll's target industries across the Carolinas, with emphasis on energy intensive industries, data centers and the power infrastructure supporting them, specialty and industrial chemicals, metals, aerospace thermal processing, and life sciences manufacturing.
  • Own the Carolinas pipeline end to end: qualify leads, lead go and no-go decisions, act as Tender Manager on pursuits you originate, and keep opportunity records, close dates and next steps current in Dynamics 365.
  • Support and grow existing accounts in the territory with combined business potential in excess of $100M and build the relationships that turn single projects into programs of work.
  • Develop relationships with key market groups, local suppliers, contractors and economic development bodies across the Charlotte, Greenville, Research Triangle and Upstate corridors.
  • Work with the local Ramboll Environment & Health office and with our Power Systems, Site Solutions and Air & Climate teams to develop leads and cross-sell across service lines, since much of the Carolinas pipeline spans more than one business unit.
  • Advise clients on engineering and technology solutions that satisfy their overall objectives, and communicate with, guide and advise executives, engineers and other business professionals representing our clients.
  • Prepare proposals and work scopes reflecting a real understanding of client needs, including budgets and cost estimates, and manage established client relationships. Exposure to sensitive client information will necessitate considerable use of tact, diplomacy and judgment.
  • Contribute to securing business of $15M of internal authorizations per year from diverse client organizations through participation in market positioning and client development activities.
  • Continue your education in key markets such as the green energy transition, data center power supply and the circular economy, and participate in relevant professional affiliations within your area of expertise.

Project and technical contribution

This is a hybrid role. Alongside business development you will charge a portion of your time - nominally twenty to thirty percent - to project work, which keeps you close to delivery and credible in front of technical buyers.
  • Contribute technically to early-phase work you help win: scoping, cost estimating, feasibility and front-end loading studies, and owner's engineer or owner's agent support.
  • Support project managers during mobilization on accounts you originated, so that the client experiences continuity between the sale and the delivery.
  • Bring site knowledge back into the pursuit process, informing go and no-go decisions and improving the accuracy of our estimating in this market.

  • Direct experience in one or more of our growth areas: energy intensive industrial manufacturing, data center development or the power infrastructure behind it, specialty chemicals, metals, aerospace thermal processing, or pharmaceutical and life sciences manufacturing.
  • Enough technical depth to hold a substantive conversation with a plant engineer, contribute to a scope of work, and carry a partial billable load.
