Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations by stopping work in emergencies and reporting accidents.
  • Manage preventive maintenance (PM) for inspection machines, including planning, checking work orders, and optimizing efficiency.
  • Analyze equipment failures to implement improvements and prevent recurrence through education and reporting.
  • Monitor and improve the accuracy and detection capability of inspection machines, providing feedback to relevant departments.
  • Develop and manage an inspection information system and oversee associated technology investments.
  • Facilitate the setup and verification of new inspection equipment to ensure operational quality and efficiency.
  • Conduct training courses to enhance technician skills and manage the technician skill matrix.

Full Job Description
Title: Engineer, Vision Systems

Reports to: Manager, Vision Systems

Location: Lansing, MI

Job Purpose:

Prevent quality issue in advance and maximize output (yield, OEE) through the establishment of inspection system, management of inspection equipment maintenance, improvement of inspection equipment performance, and the introduction of new equipment.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Compliance with health/safety/environmental/fire regulations
    -In case of emergency or danger, immediately stop work (e.g., in case of safety accidents such as worker
    injury (stenosis, cut, etc.)
    - Report singularity to Part Leader / Team Leader
    - Report accidents and risk factors to Part Leader / Team Leader
    - Implement safety improvements
  • Inspection machine PM management (inspection machine maintenance/performance management)
    -PM Planning (work content, period, personnel input, time required)
    - Technician PM work order and result check
    - Optimization of preventive maintenance items for inspection machine maintenance (PM Activity)
    - Establishment of inspection machine spare parts management system
    - Calibration to maintain inspection machine performance, management of MSA (Measurement Systems
    Analysis)
  • Inspector equipment improvement activities
    -Analyze and quantify equipment failure items (MTTR, MTBF)
    - Analyze the cause of equipment failure and derive improvement items
    - Review/derive and implement the predictive maintenance plan for the advancement of inspection equipment
    - Prevention of recurrence through failure analysis report creation, education/dissemination, and improvement
    for BM
    - Request and implement improvement on equipment makers for chronic problems
  • Improving/managing inspection machine accuracy and detection power
    - Monitoring inspection machine accuracy and detection power
    - Derivation/analysis of major factors for major inspection items
    - For process-borne issues, feedback to the production and equipment departments
    - For issues attributable to the inspection machine, improvement plans are derived and inspection conditions
    are optimized.
    - Continuous monitoring of the results of the measures
  • Establishment of inspection information management system
    - Investment review and investment cost capex execution approval based on the investment process.
    - Inspection information management system development schedule management
    - Reviewing compliance with system ordering specifications and monitoring data I/F stabilization
    - System mass production transfer (to production department) and reporting (to supervisor)
  • Expansion of equipment and dissemination/application of new technologies for inspection
    -Investment review and investment cost capex execution approval based on the investment process.
    - Inspection machine set up schedule management
    - Verification of facility production capacity and stabilization of operation quality in accordance with SAT
    standards and facility order specifications
    - After completing the inspection machine set up, mass production is transferred and inspection report is
    carried out
  • Review/plan of Inspection machine Model development and Model change
    - Review of Model development (investment, schedule)
    - Investment review and investment cost capex execution approval based on the Model development process
    - Inspection machine H/W production and inspection recipe development schedule management
    - Model change recipe status management
  • Developing Technician skill improvement plan and implementing
    - Develop and run training courses to improve technician skills
    - Technician skill matrix management
  • Establishment and management of inspection machine standards (design, installation, operation)
    -Establishment and revision of inspection machine specifications and design standards
    - Establishment and revision of inspection machine IP
  • Establishment and revision of PFD, BM/PM/PD Manual (BM/PD Measures Guide) *PFD: Process Flow Diagram
    -Analyze the cause and check the action history for BM/PD issues
    - Enactment/revision of PFD and BM/PD manual on BM/PD issues
    - Production team sharing of BM/PM/PD Manual (EKMS, B-Lex registration) and inspection technician
    training
  • Developing Competency
    -Participate in LBA (LG Energy Solution Battery Academy)
    - Participate in business exchanges for each site
    - Participate in online training (GMES platform, B-Lex case, etc.) * GMES : Global Manufacturing Execution System
    - Participate in mentoring program with new engineers
  • Reducing Overkilled NGs & Assuring for Quality by improving Inspection Performance (Undetected Real NGs, NG Leakage)
    -Improving Inspection Algorithm based on UC3 Inspection machine Algorithm sheet to enhance
    detection power : develop new algorithm, optimizing the given algorithm
  • Performing other duties assigned by the superior


Qualifications and Competencies:
  • Bachelor's Degree required in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or similar required
  • Machine Vision Engineering in a manufacturing or automotive engineering environment through an internship, co-op, entry level job role, or similar is preferred
  • Driven by objectives/KPI's; consistent; and high personal ownership to upholding accountability to established standards and practices
  • Ability to use Logical thinking and decision making by focusing on identifying root cause objectively using data, analyzing production results, and following proven problem-solving methods
  • Knowledge of Mechanical/technical curiosity and mindset
  • Commitment and desire to learn our complex battery manufacturing processes with the goal of becoming a go-to resource for technical problem-solving discussions
