The Role
Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs. Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis. Tools utilized may include CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer and a variety of software applications.
The ideal candidate should possess a strong understanding of civil engineering principles, excellent analytical skills, the ability to work with a team or professionals from different disciplines, and field experience on construction sites working as an owner representative or for a general contractor. This position will support facilities in the new construction project management team. This position manages the design and construction of structural and civil work/systems associated with utility infrastructure, building and other industrial construction projects. Responsibilities may include reviewing drawings, supervising construction projects, and ensuring compliance with legal and environmental regulations. Supervising the detailed design, budgetary costing, standardized construction, and final inspection of facility projects. This position would coordinate with consultants, contractors, and local enforcement agencies to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
