Activities- Proactively collaborate with other members of the operations group and other departments to resolve operations problems and to improve production, quality, monomer utilization, and energy consumption. This includes proposal and implementation of various improvement plans as well as documentation and follow-up of these action plans.
- Act as documentarian for various process studies and operational improvements including plant trial information, research efforts, and monthly process efficiency data.
- Share responsibility for the safety and efficiency of plant equipment and processes by responding to Safety Improvement Recommendations, implementing adequate equipment monitoring, recommending timely PM's and developing, and maintaining safe operating procedures.
- Take action as required for safe and efficient handling of projects delegated by the Monument Superintendent. Such actions include investigation, consultation, purchasing materials, completion of Management of Change requirements, training Operations personnel, developing operating procedures and implementation.
- Originate ideas and support programs directed toward improving product quality, unit safety and the environmental performance of the unit. This includes leading and participating on Quality Improvement Teams.
- Coordinate developmental projects conducted in various operating units including working with the research group to define the project, completing any necessary modifications to the process, developing trial run procedures and training operators, and monitoring the safety and results of the trial 24 hours per day.
- Facilitate and/or participate on Process Hazard Analysis Studies (PHA's) as directed by the PHA steering team.
- Keep plant management and supervision advised and up to date regarding plant and product variables, project and program timetables, and other current items of interest.
- Develop and follow operating procedures necessary to maintain the site's ISO 9002 certification.
Candidate Profile- Bachelor's degree in engineering is required, with a strong preference for Chemical Engineering.
- Effective communication (verbal and written) and influencing skills are necessary.
- Because this position requires daily interface with many disciplines within the plant, a strong preference will be given to candidates who have a proven ability to communicate technical issues to Operators and other plant personnel to assist them in making sound and safe decisions.
- Strong preference for candidates with the ability to lead by example, who have strong problem-solving and teamwork skills, and the ability to manage multiple/changing priorities.
