Full Job Description
Job Description:
The Quality Innovation Engineer leads the development and implementation of innovative quality engineering projects and technologies that improve product quality in the wood cabinetry manufacturing industry. The role manages the engineering project from concept and design through installation and validation. The position will then proliferate successful innovation across the MasterBrand enterprise, teaching the associated sites how to maintain and sustain. This role deploys innovative solutions as engineered best practices in new and existing manufacturing equipment and processes. These best practice solutions enable process automation, mistake-proofing, and structured problem-solving to improve product and process quality. The engineer manages project scope, coordinates resources, resolves issues promptly, and maintains schedules to deliver quality-improvement and mistake-proofing solutions by their targeted completion dates. A successful candidate combines technical knowledge of mechanical, digital, robotic, optical, and manufacturing systems with strong organization, communication, and project leadership skills.
This position has a preference for candidates based in Jasper, Indiana. Remote work may be considered for candidates located near a manufacturing facility. To support business needs, candidates must be available during standard core business hours.
Responsibilities:
Implement quality engineering projects including mechanical, digital, optical, robotic and related equipment systems to demonstrate projects that produce the designed ROI, R&A reduction and consumer goals.
Establish quality engineering best practices and process quality standards. Train applicable manufacturing sites and proliferate implementation.
Lead development of innovative quality mistake-proof solutions including AOI (automated optical inspection), pick to light, damage elimination, automation, robotics, and finish/paint system poke-yokes.
Develop and refine statements of work (SOW), technical specifications, equipment layouts, requests for quotation, and acceptance criteria for quality innovation projects.
Coordinate technical interfaces among equipment suppliers, Digital and Technology, manufacturing, and other internal stakeholders to align requirements, responsibilities, and integration plans.
Provide on-site support as required for equipment inspection, testing, commissioning, acceptance, and troubleshooting.
Document and manage lessons learned, supplier capabilities, and emerging technologies so future implementations can reuse proven approaches and avoid recurring issues.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, automation, manufacturing, or a related technical field; a comparable combination of education and relevant technical experience may be considered.
5+ years of quality engineering experience; experience in wood-products manufacturing is preferred.
Proven experience designing and implementing automation, vision systems and mistake-proofing tools in manufacturing environment required.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, standards, procedures, and regulatory or customer requirements and translate them into equipment and process requirements.
Practical knowledge of root-cause analysis, corrective action, risk-based thinking, and continuous-improvement methods, with the ability to apply them to equipment design, process risk, and implementation issues.
Demonstrated initiative in applying innovative technologies to improve product and process quality.
Ability to identify, evaluate, and recommend emerging quality technologies based on ROI, defect reductions and improved customer quality
Detailed understanding of process capability and variation, including how capability data informs risk assessment and solution selection.
Ability to communicate technical concepts, project risks, and recommended actions clearly to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
Ability to prioritize multiple projects by balancing quality risk, business impact, resource constraints, and target completion dates.
Ability to travel as required (up to 50%)
