Full Job Description
The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency is seeking two qualified, motivated, team-oriented individuals for the Engineer II position with the Engineering department of the Compliance Division.
The engineers at Puget Sound Clean Air Agency serve as air quality permit engineers and must work and think independently to analyze and write permit conditions for both minor and major (Title V) pollution sources. The Engineer II position performs varied and high-volume work that is important to maintaining the air quality of the region. Agency Engineers apply sound engineering principles to their work drawing from a background in engineering, chemistry, or applied sciences. Engineers at the Agency must handle a variety of duties simultaneously while balancing competing priorities. This position requires the empowerment and confidence to understand the nuance and complexity of each permit, and uphold decisions made as part of the permit writing process.
We will review applicants for an opening at the Engineer I or II level, with priority review for Engineer II applicants. Applicants may apply at the level commensurate with their qualifications, and successful candidates will be hired at the level for which they are qualified. An Engineer I applies sound knowledge of engineering principles to less complex sources. An Engineer II independently applies sound knowledge of engineering principles to more complicated and highly regulated sources. Previous experience with air quality permitting will be required to be placed at the Engineer II level. Candidates placed and hired at the Engineer I level are eligible for internal advancement to Engineer II with the completion of training and increasingly complex permit work.
The Engineer position is a unique opportunity for a dedicated individual to use their skills to help support the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency's goals to protect public health and the environment from air pollution and become the most climate-friendly region in the United States. We are seeking applicants who apply our values of excellence, innovation, integrity, leadership, collaboration, active transparency, equity, and inclusion in their day-to-day work.
This position is currently hybrid, with a possibility of days in our downtown Seattle office dependent on workload and training demands. Reporting to the field for inspections is a current expectation of any incumbent in an Engineering position. Our Agency supports a work/life balance by maintaining a 38.75 hour work week, and no requirement to regularly work nights or weekends. This position is represented by the Teamsters 763 collective bargaining unit.
The pay range for Engineer II is $109,197 - $139,336, and the pay range for Engineer I is $96,471 - $123,124. Classification determination and starting pay is dependent upon experience and qualifications.
