Join our Providence team as an experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery of municipal water projects from the early planning stage and through successful completion. If you excel at coordinating multidisciplinary teams, building trusted client relationships, and keeping complex projects on track, this role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the communities we serve.

What You Will Do
  • Define project scope, objectives, schedules, budgets, and execution strategies; develop statements of work and work breakdown structures.
  • Align internal teams and external stakeholders on project requirements, delivery plans, and expectations.
  • Identify and manage project risks, monitor performance metrics, and implement mitigation strategies throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage scope, schedule, and budget changes using established change-management processes.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards, project management procedures, safety requirements, and regulatory obligations.
  • Oversee project financials, including cost tracking, forecasting, billing, and overall profitability.
  • Review and approve client invoices, subcontractor and vendor invoices, and follow up on outstanding payments.
  • Develop and manage project staffing and resource plans, including coordination of internal teams and procurement of outside resources.
  • Provide clear direction to project team members, assign work, and support timely completion of project objectives.
  • Coach and mentor project staff, provide performance feedback, and escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, manage expectations, and deliver high-quality, on-time project outcomes.
  • Support safety planning, audit responses, and continuous improvement efforts as needed. #LI-JR1 #LI-HYBRID

Skills & Abilities

  • Experience applying project management methodologies, including budget development, project planning, controls, assurance processes, and the use of project management software, with a solid understanding of finance and accounting principles.
  • Strong understanding of project goals, key drivers, strategies, risks, and opportunities, with the ability to communicate impacts clearly.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with team members, leadership, vendors, and clients.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, enabling productive collaboration and clear engagement with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage interactions with multiple stakeholders and handle a high volume of requests in a dynamic project environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel, for documentation, tracking, and reporting.
  • Well-developed organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to balance priorities and meet deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 4 years of related experience.
  • PMP (PMI), CCM or DBIA certification is required (within 12 months of hire or promotion onto the Approved Project Manager list).
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer or other professional certification in area of practice.

Driving Requirements

An appropriate and valid driver's license is required.
Pay Range Min

USD $100,194.00
Pay Range Max

USD $175,365.00
Additional Pay Range Information

CDM Smith is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. This pay range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels for the geographic location assigned to the position. In addition to geographic location, a candidate's salary is determined by several other factors including, but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, relevant work experience, skills, required certifications, and education/training.
Additional Compensation

All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
