Job Title: Engineer, Project

Job Summary

Linamar Structures Southfield is seeking a results-driven Project Engineer to manage and implement new product lines and customer projects from concept through launch. The ideal candidate will possess strong project management skills, be proficient in Microsoft Project, and have hands-on experience with SolidWorks in a manufacturing environment. This individual will work cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure successful project execution, on time and within budget.

Responsibility

  • Lead Project Launch Activities
    Manage the end-to-end implementation of new product lines and model changes from prototype to full production, ensuring all milestones are met according to customer and internal timelines.


  • Project Scheduling and Management:
    Develop and maintain detailed project plans using Microsoft Project, identifying tasks, dependencies, resource requirements, and critical path activities. Monitor progress and proactively resolve delays or resource constraints.


  • CAD Design and Engineering Support:
    Utilize SolidWorks to design, modify, and validate parts, fixtures, tooling, and process layouts. Ensure designs meet dimensional, functional, and manufacturability requirements.


  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    Serve as the technical liaison between engineering, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and program management teams to coordinate activities and resolve design and process-related issues.


  • Customer Interaction:
    Support customer meetings and design reviews, providing technical updates, managing open issues, and incorporating feedback into design and process improvements.


  • Tooling and Equipment Development:
    Coordinate the development, procurement, and installation of tools, equipment, and gauges required for project implementation. Ensure that all tooling is validated and ready for production.


  • Documentation and Reporting:
    Generate and maintain accurate documentation including engineering change notices (ECNs), DFMEAs, PFMEAs, control plans, BOMs, and process flow diagrams. Provide regular project status reports to stakeholders.


  • Risk Management:
    Identify and assess project risks and develop mitigation plans. Conduct design and process reviews to anticipate and resolve potential issues before they impact production.


  • Launch Support and Troubleshooting:
    Provide on-site support during product launches, addressing production issues, validating first article builds, and implementing corrective actions as needed.


  • Continuous Improvement:
    Analyze project outcomes and conduct post-launch reviews to capture lessons learned. Recommend and implement improvements to enhance future project execution and reduce time-to-launch.


  • Compliance and Quality Standards:
    Ensure all project deliverables meet customer specifications, internal quality standards, and applicable regulatory requirements (including support for APQP and PPAP submissions).

Academic/Educational Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in a project engineering or product launch role within automotive or manufacturing.


  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project for timeline development and tracking.


  • Advanced user of SolidWorks with knowledge of GD&T and design for manufacturability.


  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, particularly in metal structures or CNC-based environments.


  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.


  • Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities
