Hartford HealthCare is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse to join our team in an innovative Emergency Medicine and Surgical Services hybrid nocturnist role.
This unique position provides an opportunity for an APP to practice across two complementary clinical settings overnight-evaluating lower-acuity Emergency Department patients while providing overnight admission and clinical support for the surgical service.

The Role
The APP Nocturnist will serve as an important clinical resource during overnight hours, helping provide timely care to both Emergency Department and surgical patients.
Emergency Department Responsibilities
The APP will independently evaluate and manage appropriate lower-acuity Emergency Department patients, including:

• Comprehensive history and physical examinations
• Diagnostic evaluation and interpretation
• Treatment and management of common emergency conditions
• Minor procedures within the APP's scope of practice
• Reassessment and disposition of patients
• Appropriate consultation and escalation of care

The APP will work in collaboration with the attending Emergency Medicine physician, with higher-acuity or complex patients remaining under the care of the attending physician as clinically appropriate.
Surgical Services Responsibilities
During overnight hours, the APP will also provide support to the surgical service, including:

• Evaluation of patients requiring surgical admission
• Completion of admission histories and physical examinations
• Admission orders and initial treatment plans
• Evaluation of postoperative and surgical patients with acute clinical concerns
• Coordination with the on-call surgeon
• Management of appropriate overnight surgical issues
• Recognition and escalation of patients requiring urgent surgical intervention

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be an experienced PA or APRN with strong clinical skills and an interest in both Emergency Medicine and surgical care.
Preferred qualifications include:

• Graduate of an accredited PA or APRN program
• Current Connecticut licensure
• Appropriate national certification
• Emergency Medicine, Urgent Care, Hospital Medicine, Surgery, or related acute-care experience
• Strong clinical judgment and communication skills
• Ability to work independently while recognizing when physician or surgical consultation is necessary
• Comfortable working overnight in a fast-paced clinical environment
