Full Job Description
As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will utilize experience and expertise to develop and execute objectives for self and others, as well as provide technical solutions, through Embedded Software Applications, for a myriad of customer requests. You will have the ability to achieve short-term and some long-term business goals for a transportation-related software product portfolio. You will report to the Software Manager and the broader business unit to ensure that we are meeting on-time deliveries and delivering the highest quality Software to our customers. You will be responsible for the design, development, and testing of Embedded Software Applications. You will perform requirement and design reviews, code reviews, and unit testing; and will be responsible for releasing Software, per company processes and guidelines.
THIS POSITION IS BASED ON-SITE IN ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Acting as a member of the Software team representing the face of high-quality design and development practices
• Developing multi-threaded C/C++ applications running under an embedded RTOS (Linux, MQX, Green Hills Integrity, FreeRTOS, VxWorks)
• Developing high-performance, scaled, and innovative end-to-end software systems applications
• Collaborating with software engineers, system engineers, safety engineers and test engineers to implement solutions that are aligned with and extend platforms and product solutions
• Working closely with Project Managers and others leads to determine scope of work, resource assignment and timelines
• Writing code that meets standards and delivers desired functionality using the technology selected for the project
• Participating actively in design and code reviews
• The potential to perform other duties outside of your function, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary
Requirements
• A Bachelor's, or higher, Degree from an accredited college or university in an Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering of Computer Science major.
• 5 years of hands-on experience in embedded real-time software performing design and development building scalable software with an emphasis around design, implementation, debugging, and support of the product.
• Proficiency and experience with HIL testing
• Platform team member with experience in embedded C
• Experience with Linux OS preferable
• Experience with docker containers preferable
• Ability to read/write/decompose architecture requirements
• Proficiency with resolving defects and implementing new features
• Experience with Serial/Ethernet communications preferable
• Ability to understand complex systems
• Hands-on experience with databases/SQL

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to work in a cross-functional, global environment.
• Experience with DOORs and/or other requirements management and traceability tools
• Transportation industry experience (automotive, rail, etc.)
• An interest in how the build environment and the core components of software goes together: libraries, monoliths, compilers, linkers.
• Strong technical skills in C / C++
