Scope of PositionThe Embedded Engineer III is a mid-level position responsible for independently designing, developing, and testing embedded software and firmware. The engineer at this level works with minimal supervision, leads portions of projects, and begins to serve as a technical resource for junior team members. This role requires solid technical depth in embedded systems and the ability to contribute meaningfully to architectural and design decisions.This position does not have any direct reports.This position reports to the Embedded Engineer Manager. This role is onsite and is based in Oviedo, FL.Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities- Independently design, develop, and test embedded firmware for microcontroller and microprocessor-based systems.
- Lead firmware development efforts for specific modules or subsystems within a larger project.
- Perform hardware bring-up activities, including board-level debugging and validation.
- Develop and execute comprehensive test plans and document results.
- Drive debugging and root-cause analysis of complex hardware and software issues.
- Contribute to firmware architecture and design discussions with the broader engineering team.
- Write and maintain thorough technical documentation including architecture documents, design specifications, and test reports.
- Mentor and provide guidance to Embedded Engineer I and II team members.
- Collaborate with hardware, systems, and application engineers to define requirements and interfaces.
- Participate in and lead code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding standards and best practices.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives within the engineering team.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the engineering team lead.

Required Qualifications- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of professional experience in embedded firmware or software development.
- Strong proficiency in C and/or C++ for embedded targets.
- Demonstrated experience with RTOS-based development (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or similar).
- Experience with ARM Cortex-M or similar embedded processor architectures.
- Solid understanding of embedded communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, USB, etc.).
- Experience with hardware bring-up and board-level debugging.
- Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Ability to independently debug complex hardware/software interactions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Understanding of and adherence to applicable laws, codes, policies, regulations, and safety practices and procedures, as applicable.
- Must successfully establish employment eligibility and satisfactorily complete background checks and required pre-employment testing as a condition of employment.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with safety-critical or regulated development environments (IEC 61508, ISO 26262, IEC 62443, or similar).
- Familiarity with bootloader design and firmware update mechanisms.
- Experience with low-power embedded system design.
- Exposure to wireless communication protocols (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Zigbee, LoRa, etc.).
- Familiarity with static analysis tools (e.g., PC-lint, Polyspace, Coverity).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines for embedded development.
- Knowledge of secure firmware design practices.

Working Conditions: While performing the job duties, you will be working on-site at a manufacturing facility and will perform the majority of your duties in an office environment. You may, at times, be required to be present on the manufacturing floor and will be required to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment. You will be required to work in the office at the Oviedo, FL location (Monday – Friday). Your scheduled work hours will be communicated to you by your manager.Physical Requirements:Specific physical abilities required for this position include, but are not limited to:- Ability to work in an office and laboratory environment.
