Electronics and Electrical System Design Engineer. This position is a full-time opportunity located in
Columbus, OH.The selected candidate will join a team responsible for designing complex, advanced technology electronic and electromechanical systems for government and industry customers. The ideal candidate brings self-motivation to learn on the job, the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, strong time management skills, and an enthusiasm for working across a diverse set of projects. Onsite work is required for the first 6-9 months, with the potential to transition to a hybrid schedule dependent on customer contract requirements.
Professional growth will extend beyond technical work to include contributing to proposal efforts, building relationships with internal clients, participating in IR&D studies, and supporting business development efforts.
Responsibilities As an Electronics and Electrical System Design Engineer, the selected individual will design and develop advanced electronic and electromechanical systems for government and industry customers. Responsibilities may include:
- Generate block diagrams and concept designs that address complex system design requirements
- Deliver high-quality results on time and within budget, applying strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to quality throughout all project phases
- Create circuit board schematics, review PCB layouts, and generate CCA documentation
- Generate and debug firmware code for microprocessors used in embedded systems
- Perform calculations and simulations to predict system performance
- Perform trade studies for component identification and selection
- Create wiring diagrams and wire harness drawings
- Interpret, research, and understand design requirements
- Perform testing, debug, and resolve errors using standard electrical laboratory equipment
- Write test plan documents and support technicians with test setup construction
- Reverse engineer electronic systems to support analysis and redesign efforts
- Provide technical expertise and support for designs post-delivery
- Create summary presentations, reports, technical manuals, and procedures
Key Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering from an ABET-accredited ECE program with a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience; or a bachelor's degree in a related field with 8 years of experience; or a master's degree in a related field with 5 years of experience; or a PhD in a related field with 2 years of experience (relevant research, internship, and co-op experience counts toward total)
- Demonstrated mastery of electrical engineering fundamentals with a self-motivated, analytical approach to problem solving
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft applications including Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Must be a sole U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a government TS/SCI security clearance
Preferred Qualifications - Experience with embedded systems design, programming, and troubleshooting
- Hands-on mechanical and electrical experience with standard tools and methods (soldering, crimping, hand tools, and debugging in lab or field environments)
- Ability to collaborate across technical disciplines to solve challenging, multifaceted problems
Compensation Data Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $70,000 - $95,000 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications. Salary ranges may vary based on geographic location and market conditions.
