Overview

Shimmick via our subsidiary, Axia Electric, is seeking a highly talented Electrical Project Manager to be based in Orange County, California.

 

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage assigned projects or project phases, including planning, execution, budget performance, schedule adherence, subcontractor coordination, and client communications to ensure successful project delivery.

  • Proactively identify project risks, issues, and opportunities; develop and implement effective mitigation strategies and corrective actions to maintain project objectives related to safety, cost, quality, and schedule.

  • Lead and coordinate internal and external project teams, ensuring alignment among engineering, procurement, construction, project controls, and client stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Monitor project performance, resource utilization, and financial results, providing accurate forecasting, reporting, and recommendations to project leadership.

  • Mentor Project Engineers and other junior team members while fostering a collaborative, high-performance project environment.

  • Support contract administration, change management, procurement activities, and client relationship management to achieve project and business objectives.

  • May directly supervise project engineers, project coordinators, and other project support personnel, while providing oversight and direction to multidisciplinary project teams.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting heavy civil construction projects in the water/wastewater, mass transit, and power generation markets.
  • Experience performing electrical engineering calculations, analyses, and technical studies.
  • Experience reviewing electrical submittals, RFIs, construction documents, and commissioning activities.
  • Working knowledge of electrical power distribution equipment, including switchgear, transformers, panelboards, generators, UPS systems, and related infrastructure.
  • Ability to interpret and review P&IDs, control schematics, electrical single-line diagrams, and system drawings for I&C, fire alarm, HVAC controls, and security systems.
  • Experience with the construction, inspection, installation, and testing of electrical systems, including lighting, medium- and high-voltage equipment, grounding systems, and cable installation activities.
  • Knowledge of current industry quality standards and quality control processes; previous Quality Control experience is a plus.
  • Detailed knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and NFPA 70E standards.
  • Ability to interpret electrical single-line diagrams, block diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel schedules, raceway and cable tray drawings, and electrical support drawings.
  • Experience using Accubid for quantity takeoffs, estimating, and bid preparation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other construction-related software applications.

The salary range for this position is between $125,000 to $160,000 depending on experience and/or education.
