Electrical Project Engineer | Ann Arbor, MI

IMEG is hiring an Electrical Project Engineer in Detroit, MI. In this role, you will lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects and collaborate with senior staff on the delivery of larger and high complexity work. You will provide engineering solutions and technical guidance to support positive client outcomes.

This role focuses on the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of electrical systems for buildings, with responsibility for project budgets, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration. You will support industrial, manufacturing, and MEP projects while helping deliver high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.

What You'll Do

  • Lead design efforts for the analysis of electrical systems, using engineering software and tools to create designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards.


  • Interact with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, communicate technical information effectively, and build professional client relationships.


  • Support the execution of consulting projects and lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling tasks to meet deadlines and objectives.


  • Document design decisions and client instructions while monitoring project design progress related to percent complete and fee expended.


  • Analyze engineering problems and develop practical, efficient solutions in collaboration with senior engineers and consultants.


  • Provide in-process design reviews of electrical system design, calculations, and specifications, and implement quality control processes to meet firm, industry, and client requirements.


  • Train, mentor, and collaborate with cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams to meet project goals and client expectations.


  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in electrical engineering, and contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts.


  • Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work and identify and mitigate potential safety risks associated with electrical systems.


  • Identify potential project problems, seek advice from the Project Manager, and oversee projects through bidding and construction administration.


What You'll Bring

Required

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, required


  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required


  • 5 years of experience minimum required, 6 preferred, in the building design consulting industry


  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications


  • Strong technical and analytical skills including knowledge of principles relating to circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics as they relate to electrical systems design for buildings.


  • Proficient with industry standard engineering software and tools including lighting photometric calculation software such as AGI, Elum Tools, Visual Lighting, or other; power system analysis and design software such as SKM/PTW, Easy Power, or other; energy code compliance and software such as ComCheck; Adobe or Bluebeam Revu


  • Knowledge of Illumination Engineering Society (IES) Standards.


  • Proficient with the use of reference material resources such as NFPA Link, TechStreet, MadCAD, and Facility Guideline Institution (FGI)


  • Knowledge of Master Specification editing and software such as eSPECS, BIM software, and CTC Revit Add In Tools; Proficiency of Smart Engineering Design Assist (SET) Tools within Revit for electrical calculations, coordination, properties, etc.


  • Strong training and mentoring skills


  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups


  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment


  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills


  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook


  • Ability to travel up to 15% with occasional overnight stays
