Summary:
The Electrical Engineer designs, develops, integrates, documents, validates, and supports electrical and controls systems for mission-critical HVAC and data center cooling equipment. The position is responsible for translating product and customer requirements into safe, reliable, compliant, manufacturable, and serviceable electrical designs. The engineer works cross-functionally with mechanical engineering, controls/software engineering, applications engineering, manufacturing, quality, certification agencies, suppliers, and field service throughout the product lifecycle.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Provides electrical design of products/systems such as microprocessor controls and electrical power/control panels for HVAC equipment in accordance with engineering design standards.
- Select and apply disconnects, circuit breakers, fuses, contactors, motor starters, variable-frequency drives, transformers, power supplies, relays, terminal blocks, and related protective devices.
- Perform or document load calculations, conductor sizing, overcurrent-protection selection, control-transformer sizing, voltage-drop evaluation, power-supply loading, and component derating.
- Determine or support equipment short-circuit current rating, including the effect of power-circuit components and branch protection.
- Interpret and apply applicable product-safety, electrical, and equipment-construction requirements. Maintain the electrical design, approved critical-component information, and technical documentation needed to support third-party certification, factory inspections, product changes, and certification-agency reviews.
- Creates engineering documentation related to the electrical design of HVAC equipment such as design spreadsheets, SAP bill of materials, electrical schematics, sequence of operations, and control panel layouts.
- Provides engineering support and generates technical information for sales, marketing, applications engineering, production and field service groups.
- Evaluates field installations and recommends design modifications to eliminate equipment or systems malfunctions.
- Other duties as assigned.
