Full Job Description
The Role

As an Electrical Engineer, you will play a key role in developing the next generation of SBQuantum's quantum diamond magnetometer for space applications and other harsh environments. You'll be part of the electronic design team, working closely with our physics, and algorithms team, contributing to systems ranging from microwave generation and laser control to optical detection, low-noise electronics, and low-power MCU/FPGA integration. You'll work on a complex, high-performance system that requires careful optimization at every stage, where your work will directly impact the reliability and performance of the sensor.

What You'll Do
  • Develop and optimize control electronics including microcontrollers, FPGA interfaces, PLLs, laser drivers, and communication buses for the next generation of our quantum diamond magnetometer.
  • Contribute to the architecture and development of both analog and digital electronics across the magnetometer system.
  • Design and review PCB layouts with a focus on minimizing magnetic signatures and achieving low-noise performance.
  • Develop embedded firmware for microcontrollers, including system control logic, inter-component communication, and embedded algorithms.
  • Support system integration across multiple platforms, including drones, satellite payloads, and multi-sensor configurations.
  • Identify technical risks early and develop practical mitigation strategies throughout the development cycle.
  • Collaborate closely with physics, algorithms, and engineering teams to align system design and performance goals.
  • Participate in R&D campaigns including prototyping, fabrication, testing, and validation.

What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in PCB design and electronic system development.
  • Strong understanding of analog and digital circuit design.
  • Experience designing low-noise electronics and signal conditioning circuits.
  • Experience in electro-optics, transimpedance circuits.
  • Experience with Altium Designer for PCB design and layout.
  • Experience with embedded systems programming in C.
  • Experience working with microcontrollers and communication protocols.
  • Ability to debug and validate complex electronic systems.
  • Comfortable working in a multidisciplinary R&D environment.

Nice-to-Haves
  • Experience with laser control electronics or microwave generation systems
  • Experience designing electronics for aerospace or harsh environments
  • Knowledge of magnetic noise reduction and low magnetic signature PCB design

What We Offer
  • Competitive salary and meaningful equity.
  • Opportunity to be an early team member shaping both the technology and the culture.
  • Flexible, collaborative work environment.
  • Direct impact: your work will shape breakthrough products in a cutting-edge field.
  • Professional growth opportunities as we scale.

At SBQ, we are mission driven and collaborate with people independently of gender, race, beliefs, citizenship, orientation and value unconventional paths. Let's meet!
