Electrical Engineer or Designer, Healthcare
Position Description

Cushing Terrell is hiring an Electrical Engineer or Designer to support electrical design work across a national portfolio of healthcare projects, from medical office buildings and clinics to full scale hospitals and specialized patient housing facilities. Based on-site in our Boise office, you will work within a collaborative team, producing plans, sections, and details under the direction of a Project Engineer, with a scope spanning branch circuiting, lighting systems and controls, power distribution, generator and emergency power systems, and life safety code compliance.

This role is open to both licensed Professional Engineers and non-licensed designers with 5 to 10 years of relevant experience, PE licensure is preferred but not required to apply.

Within your first 90 days you will be contributing across multiple healthcare project types and building familiarity with our systems and standards. Long-term, the path forward is yours to define, whether that means completing PE licensure, deepening expertise in healthcare electrical systems, or building toward additional ownership on projects.
Position Salary Range*

The expected salary range for this position is $78,000 to $96,000 annually.
Required Qualifications**
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent professional experience
  • 5 to 10 years of job-related electrical design experience, including power distribution, lighting and lighting controls, and code-required life safety design
  • Working knowledge of Autodesk Revit MEP, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam
  • Strong analytical and mathematical problem-solving skills
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems design fundamentals, including power circuiting, lighting, and load calculations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications**
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE), or ability to obtain licensure by comity in Idaho
  • Experience with healthcare, institutional, or other regulated-occupancy building projects
  • Experience with arc-fault, short circuit, or arc flash analysis using computer-based programs
  • Experience with emergency power systems, including generators, UPS systems, and battery-backed lighting or exit sign systems, and the life safety codes governing their use

  • Apply a working understanding of emergency power systems, including generators, UPS systems, and battery-backed lighting or exit sign systems, along with the life safety codes governing their use
  • Perform branch circuit design and calculations, including service feeders, main electrical distribution systems, and lighting systems and controls
  • Participate in client meetings to help define project goals, then translate requirements into design details and construction documents
  • Support senior team members and collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to deliver coordinated project outcomes
  • Build proficiency in technical design skills, code compliance, and healthcare-specific systems as you grow in the role

*Actual pay will be determined based on the candidate's years of experience, licensure status, location, level of proficiency, and other job-related factors (as permitted by law). This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus.
