Role Summary
Specter Aerospace is seeking an Electrical Engineer to contribute to the development and implementation of avionics systems for hypersonic flight vehicles. This role offers hands-on experience across the avionics engineering lifecycle, including requirements development, circuit and PCB design, hardware integration, system shakedown, debugging, and testing.
A successful candidate will work closely with electrical, embedded software, GNC, mechanical, and test engineers to develop systems that support Specter's experimental and flight vehicle programs.
Role Responsibilities
- Design, integrate, and test custom avionics hardware for hypersonic flight vehicles and ground support equipment.
- Develop analog and digital circuits for sensing, data acquisition, communications, power distribution, and vehicle control.
- Perform component selection, schematic capture, PCB design, and supporting design analysis.
- Complete PCB bring-up, characterization, troubleshooting, and verification using laboratory equipment.
- Interface with electrical, embedded software, GNC, mechanical, and test engineers to refine requirements and define electrical interfaces.
- Develop test plans and procedures for system shakedown, debugging, and validation.
- Support vehicle integration, environmental testing, and flight test activities.
- Take ownership of assigned projects from initial concept through implementation, testing, and documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field.
- Experience applying electrical engineering fundamentals through professional work, research, coursework, or student projects.
- Familiarity with analog and digital circuit design.
- Experience using ECAD tools such as Altium Designer, KiCad, OrCAD, or similar.
- Experience bringing up and testing custom PCBs or other electrical systems.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, component datasheets, and technical documentation.
- Experience using laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies, or signal analyzers.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with changing requirements.
- Strong collaborative skills and a drive to produce high-quality work.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous applicable professional, research, or student-team experience.
- Experience with microcontrollers, sensors, data converters, communication interfaces, or power electronics.
- Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or MATLAB, or embedded languages such as C, C++, or similar.
- Experience with circuit simulation tools such as SPICE, PLECS, Simulink, or similar.
- Understanding of grounding, shielding, filtering, signal integrity, or electromagnetic compatibility.
- Familiarity with telemetry, data acquisition, hardware in the loop testing, or avionics ground support equipment.
- Ability to hand-assemble and rework PCBs with small or complex components.
