Keystone Engineering is currently seeking a Project Engineer.Position Type: Full-time
Location: Houston office location with occasional site visits required
Responsibilities:Project Engineering & Execution- Support the Project Manager in the planning and execution of power generation and energy infrastructure projects.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities involving electrical, mechanical, civil/structural, instrumentation and controls, piping, process, and environmental disciplines.
- Develop and maintain engineering scopes of work, design criteria, project requirements, equipment specifications, and technical deliverables.
- Coordinate engineering activities from conceptual design and FEED through detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup.
- Monitor engineering progress against the project schedule and identify potential schedule, cost, resource, or technical issues.
- Facilitate engineering kickoff meetings, design reviews, model reviews, constructability reviews, and interdisciplinary coordination meetings.
- Track technical action items, engineering deliverables, vendor information, RFIs, design changes, and project decisions.
- Review engineering deliverables for technical completeness, constructability, consistency, and compliance with project requirements.
- Support project change management by identifying scope changes and evaluating their potential impact on cost and schedule.
- Assist with project reporting, forecasting, scheduling, risk identification, and progress measurement.
Electrical EngineeringProvide technical leadership and coordination for electrical systems associated with power generation facilities, including:- Generators and generator auxiliary systems
- Generator step-up (GSU) transformers
- Unit auxiliary and station service transformers
- Medium-voltage and low-voltage switchgear
- Motor control centers (MCCs)
- Electrical distribution systems
- Substations and switchyards
- Underground and aboveground electrical distribution
- Cable tray and raceway systems
- Grounding and lightning protection
- DC systems, batteries, and battery chargers
- UPS systems
- Protective relaying and metering
- Electrical control and monitoring systems
- Emergency and standby power systems
- Plant lighting and receptacle systems
Review and coordinate electrical studies including load flow, short-circuit, protective device coordination, arc-flash, grounding, motor starting, and other system studies as required.Review electrical single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, cable schedules, equipment layouts, grounding plans, and installation details.Coordinate electrical system interfaces between generation equipment, balance-of-plant systems, substations, transmission/interconnection facilities, and utility systems.Power Generation SystemsSupport engineering and integration of power generation equipment such as:- Industrial and aeroderivative gas turbines
- Reciprocating engine generators
- Mobile and modular generation systems
- Simple-cycle generation facilities
- Combined-cycle generation facilities
- Steam turbine generators
- Distributed generation and microgrid systems
Coordinate balance-of-plant systems including fuel gas, electrical distribution, cooling, compressed air, fire protection, water systems, emissions control systems, communications, controls, and plant auxiliary systems.Coordinate technical interfaces between OEM generation packages and site infrastructure.Equipment Procurement & Vendor Coordination- Develop and review technical specifications, equipment data sheets, and procurement packages.
- Prepare or support technical bid evaluations and vendor selection.
- Review vendor drawings, calculations, equipment data, and technical documentation.
- Coordinate vendor information with engineering disciplines.
- Participate in vendor meetings and technical clarification discussions.
- Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) and equipment inspections when required.
- Monitor critical vendor deliverables and identify potential impacts to engineering or construction schedules.
Construction & Commissioning Support- Provide engineering support during construction and installation.
- Respond to RFIs and field technical questions.
- Review construction drawings, vendor documentation, and field changes.
- Participate in construction walkdowns and field inspections.
- Support resolution of design and installation conflicts.
- Assist with equipment energization and commissioning planning.
- Participate in electrical system checkout, testing, commissioning, and startup activities.
- Support development and completion of punch lists.
- Assist with turnover packages, redlines, as-built drawings, and final project documentation.
- Support coordination of OEM representatives, commissioning personnel, contractors, and operations personnel during startup.
Project Controls & Commercial Support- Assist the Project Manager with engineering budgets, schedules, forecasts, and resource planning.
- Monitor engineering hours and deliverable progress.
- Identify potential scope growth and support preparation of change orders.
- Participate in project risk assessments and mitigation planning.
- Support development of project execution plans and engineering schedules.
- Coordinate engineering priorities with procurement and construction requirements.
- Assist with preparation of technical portions of proposals and cost estimates.
Requirements:- B.S. in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
- 5-7 years of experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills

Experience Preferred:- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
- 5-7 years of engineering experience, preferably within power generation, utilities, industrial energy infrastructure, EPC, or related industries.
- Experience with electrical power distribution and generation systems.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering projects.
- Working knowledge of engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and equipment documentation.
- Understanding of engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup project phases.
- Strong technical problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple engineering priorities and interfaces simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients, engineers, equipment vendors, contractors, construction personnel, and operations personnel.
