The WorkLACCD is spending bond money to cut energy use and carbon across its nine college campuses: solar, battery storage, microgrids, electric vehicle charging, building controls, LED lighting, central plant upgrades, and electrification. The Sustainability Strike Team runs those projects. You are its electrical engineer: the licensed expert the project managers turn to when they need to know what the existing electrical system can handle, what a project will really take, and whether a design is right.
You work under the Sustainability Strike Team Lead as a shared technical resource across the district, based at the District Office. You are not a project manager. You assess existing infrastructure, run load and capacity studies, write and check scopes of work, review designs and submittals, sit on selection panels, and back up the team in the field through commissioning and closeout.
This is a good seat for a licensed electrical engineer with 7 or more years in design, construction, or facilities infrastructure who wants to work for the owner on energy and sustainability projects.
What You Will Own- Serve as the electrical engineering expert for project managers and the Sustainability Strike Team across districtwide initiatives
- Assess existing electrical infrastructure and equipment for condition, performance, capacity, and upgrade opportunities, and write existing conditions reports with findings, alternatives, and priorities
- Perform and review load studies, capacity evaluations, feasibility studies, and other analyses that shape project scope and design
- Check that proposed upgrades fit the existing electrical and building systems, and coordinate with other engineering disciplines and utility providers on service capacity and upgrades
- Write technical scopes of work, or the electrical portion of them, and review scopes prepared by consultants against District standards, project goals, and site conditions
- Validate engineering assumptions, alternatives, and feasibility findings in the White Papers that set up new projects, following the program office's standard procedures
- Provide electrical input to procurement documents and evaluation criteria, and serve on panels that select designers, contractors, and other technical firms
- Review studies, design documents, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and change order proposals, and make technical recommendations to project managers
- Bring technical expertise to solar, battery storage, microgrids, EV charging, building electrification, central plant decarbonization, lighting, and smart controls
- Work with design and construction teams to flag engineering risks, resolve technical issues, and support constructability and systems integration
- Support field visits, design and construction meetings, commissioning, and closeout
- Apply California energy and electrical codes, Title 24, ASHRAE guidance, and District standards to every review
