What You'll Do (Brief Role Description)Reporting to the Discipline Lead - Protection and Controls, the role of P&C Substation Engineer is designing of protection and control schemes in electrical facilities for the Transmission and Distribution, Power generation, Industrial and Renewables sectors. P&C Engineer will apply their knowledge and experience to analyze, evaluate, and create new designs and drawings and revise existing designs and drawings with guidance from senior engineering personnel, as needed. P&C Engineers
Key ResponsibilitiesThe responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:
- Design protection and control systems for electrical facilities within the Transmission & Distribution, Power Generation, Industrial, and Renewable Energy sectors.
- Develop complete protection and control design packages, including schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, bills of materials, and supporting documentation.
- Apply industry standards, engineering principles, and protection philosophies to produce accurate and high-quality engineering deliverables.
- Perform protective relay setting calculations and configure modern digital protection relays for utility applications not necessary but an asset.
- Develop, review, and verify protection and control philosophies, schemes, and engineering standards. Including but not limited to AC/DC studies, battery and charger sizing, voltage drop and CT burden calculations.
- Provide technical engineering support throughout construction, commissioning, testing, and field installation activities, including troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering disciplines as well as with construction, commissioning, and client teams to ensure successful project execution.
- Experience with engineering software such as MathCAD, Aspen OneLiner, CAPE[MA1] , and eTap, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and other design tools to complete engineering deliverables is considered an asset.
- Apply knowledge of electric transmission system operation, substation equipment, system performance, maintenance practices, and protection coordination to engineering designs.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable legislation, client requirements, and industry standards, including AEUC, CSA, ANSI, IEC, IEEE, and applicable utility specifications. Familiarity with NFPA, NEMA, NERC are also an asset.
- Support projects involving Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) requirements where applicable.
- Manage multiple engineering assignments simultaneously while maintaining quality, schedules, and project priorities.
- Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering standards and project execution.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective engineering solutions.

RequirementsWhat We're Looking For (Qualifications/Requirements)- Degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering degree required; or Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited post-secondary institution
- 2 - 8 years of experience in the Utilities industry is preferred but not required
- Previous engineering or design experience in electrical facilities for the Transmission and Distribution, Power generation, Industrial and Renewables sectors is considered a strong asset.
- Experience in construction and field installations an asset
- Proficient in medium/high voltage power engineering in electrical facilities for the Transmission and Distribution, Power generation, Industrial and Renewables sectors
- Proficient ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics
- Possess strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Eligible for registration with APEGGA or ASET
- Dedicated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to work within strict deadlines
- Navigate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks
