Full Job Description
This role engineers Siemens TIASTAR Motor Control Centers (MCCs) and enclosed variable frequency drives (VFDs) for AWC's new UL-listed manufacturing program. You'll design complete MCC lineups and enclosed VFD panels, review customer specifications for proposals, and help create the standard designs and engineering practices the program is built on.
This is a hands-on position. You'll split your time between design work, supporting customers and sales on proposals, and the manufacturing floor, making sure designs meet UL 845, UL 508A and customer requirements and can be handed off to production and built on the shop floor without engineering rework.
How you'll make an impact:
Design complete low-voltage MCC lineups, enclosed VFD panels, replacement buckets and retrofit assemblies to customer specifications
Produce one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, bills of material and nameplate schedules in EPLAN Electric P8, released as complete packages that production can build from
Develop standard MCC bucket designs and enclosed VFD configurations that shorten lead times and support repeatable production
Select and apply circuit breakers, motor starters, overload relays, VFDs, soft starters, control transformers and other power and control components
Ensure designs comply with UL 845, UL 508A and the NEC, including short-circuit current ratings and AWC's listing requirements
Review customer specifications and one-line diagrams for proposals, and prepare technical clarifications and exceptions
Help sales and estimating scope and price engineered-to-order work, and join customer calls on larger projects
Support fabrication and test technicians during assembly, testing and factory acceptance tests, and process engineering changes
Work with AWC's EPLAN Standards Engineer to build templates, macros and parts data
Skills you'll need:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent industry experience
3+ years designing low-voltage power distribution or motor control equipment
Experience with EPLAN Electric P8 or AutoCAD Electrical
Ability to read and interpret industrial electrical specifications, one-line diagrams and control schematics, and to write clear exceptions to them
Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code, including Articles 409 and 430
Clear communication with customers, sales and the manufacturing team, and willingness to spend time on the shop floor
Here's what will set you apart:
Experience designing MCCs, especially Siemens TIASTAR with SIMOCODE motor management relays
Knowledge of UL 845 and UL 508A, including SCCR calculations
Application, sales or project engineering experience on MCCs, switchgear or drives
Experience building EPLAN templates, macros or parts data
Experience with an OEM, panel builder, systems integrator or switchgear manufacturer
Why This Role Is Different
You'll help build AWC's power systems manufacturing program from the ground up. The standard MCC and enclosed VFD designs and engineering practices you create will define how AWC designs and builds these products for years to come, and the role offers room to grow into application engineering leadership, technical leadership or engineering management.
The Rewards
Employee-owned company through our Employee Stock Ownership Plan
Competitive salary and performance incentives
Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits
401(k) with company contributions
Paid vacation and company holidays
Ongoing manufacturer and technical training
Opportunity to work alongside industry-leading manufacturers and customers
Opportunity to help build and grow an expanding low-voltage power systems manufacturing operation
