Full Job Description
Position Purpose:

The Elastomers Project Engineer supports the development, testing, and commercialization of elastomer-based products and materials while assisting with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and customer requirements to help deliver projects on time, within budget, and to performance specifications.

Essential Functions:
  • Assist with all technical aspects of multiple elastomer product development projects while ensuring achievement of performance, quality, timing, cost, and manufacturability objectives.
  • Support the design, development, validation, and commercialization of elastomer products and components, from concept through production launch, including material selection, product design, prototyping, testing, and performance evaluation.
  • Support cross-functional activities with computer aided design (CAD), finite element analysis (FEA), test engineering, process engineering, program management, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, suppliers, and customers to ensure successful project execution.
  • Assist with prototype molding activities and oversee product validation through laboratory, durability, and application-specific testing to verify compliance with customer and engineering requirements.
  • Design, develop, source, and implement prototype tooling, assembly equipment, and related manufacturing solutions to support product development activities.
  • Support quotation and sourcing activities by providing technical expertise, cost analysis, and supplier coordination for prototype and production components.
  • Apply design for manufacturing (DFM) principles and advanced product quality planning (APQP) methodologies to ensure production readiness, process capability, and successful product launches.
  • Provide technical support for prototype and production manufacturing by identifying and resolving design, material, process, and quality-related issues.
  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation, specifications, validation plans, test exports, and project updates, while effectively communicating technical solutions to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Utilize Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems to create, manage, release, and maintain engineering documentation, product structures, bills of materials (BOMs), engineering changes, and project records throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Maintain accurate product data and configuration control within the PLM system to ensure compliance with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and customer requirements.
  • Develop, review, and approve engineering drawings, specifications, and design documentation using established PLM and change management processes.
  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to create and interpret engineering drawings that ensure product functionality, manufacturability, inspectability, and interchangeability.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Suppliers, and Inspection teams to establish dimensional requirements, gauging methods, inspection plans, and tolerance strategies using GD&T best practices.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for dimensional, fit, form, and function issues through application of GD&T principles and engineering analysis.
  • Ensure engineering documentation, drawings, and models adhere to company standards, industry standards, and customer requirements for dimensioning, tolerancing, and configuration management.
  • Support design reviews and product validation activities by verifying that CAD models, drawings, specifications, and released product data accurately reflect design intent and manufacturing requirements.
  • Drive product and process improvements that enhance performance, quality, reliability, manufacturability, and cost competitiveness.
  • Promote continuous improvement through process optimization, waste elimination, and knowledge sharing, while professionally representing the company.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Training
  • A bachelor's degree in an engineering field is required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A minimum of 4 years' experience in a related role.
  • Ability to travel on an as needed basis up to 20% of the time to support project, supplier, customer, and manufacturing activities.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple engineering projects and coordinating activities across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in product design, development, validation, and launch, including application of engineering principles, manufacturing processes, and testing methodologies.
  • Proficiency with CAD and PLM software.
  • Proficiency in reading and applying GD&T principles for print development, precision gauging, and inspection methodologies.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated product innovation and continuous improvement skills.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
