Key ResponsibilitiesThe Educator Development Specialist coordinates educator effectiveness and standards for the Utah State Board of Education. In this role, the specialist supports mentoring and induction, as well as instruction and programs for Gifted and Talented education across Utah's schools. Key responsibilities also include facilitating the administration, troubleshooting, and reporting of the state's required Educator Exit and Engagement Surveys to support local education agencies (LEAs). Additionally, the specialist provides critical support for Title II, Part A grants by delivering technical assistance, processing budget revisions and reimbursements, and ensuring compliance monitoring.
Principal DutiesAs the Educational Specialist, you will perform tasks across three primary operational areas:
1. Professional Learning and Capacity-Building
- Support Mentoring and Induction Programs in LEAs across Utah, including alignment with Utah's Professional Learning Standards for new educators
- Lead and coordinate state-level supports, resources, and professional learning specifically for Gifted and Talented programs and educators
- Builds supports for educators who teach students who are classified as Gifted and Talented
- Provides guidance and support for implementation of Utah's Effective Teaching Standards (UETS) in LEAs
2. State Educator Exit and Engagement Survey Administrator
- Oversee the execution and troubleshooting of required state surveys in Qualtrics
- Manage continuous data collection for the annual Exit Survey and the Educator Engagement Survey.
- Update and maintain accurate LEA contact listservs for survey deployment.
- Collaborate closely with the Teaching and Learning Data team to coordinate the production and dissemination of statewide survey reports.
3. Title II, Part A Grant Support
- Review, approve, and provide technical assistance for Title II, Part A expenditures using the Utah Grants system.
- Process reimbursement requests, budget revisions, and pre-applications.
- Ensure LEA expenditures align with federal compliance guidelines, allowable uses, and ESSA regulations.
QualificationsThe Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate will seamlessly bridge the gap between compliance monitoring and hands-on technical support, acting as a resource and partner to LEA leaders across Utah.
Required Qualifications:
- Utah Teaching License: Current Utah educator license
- Coaching & Professional Learning Experience: Demonstrated experience coaching educators and designing and facilitating high-quality professional learning at an LEA or state systems level.
- Problem-Solving Mindset: Willingness to be creative and collaboratively solve both adaptive and technical challenges.
- Capacity Building: Strong enthusiasm for building educator capacity and supporting teacher growth across Utah.
- Systems Thinking: Strategic systems thinking capable of scaling initiatives statewide across varied district and school contexts.
- Educator Experience - classroom teaching and LEA level experience in Utah K-12 Public Education
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in Education or Related Field
- Utah School Leadership License
- Instructional Coaching Endorsement and/or Mentoring Endorsement
- Experience with Gifted and Talented Programs
- Experience with managing grants
