Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for an early career Mechanical Design Engineer supporting the Test Operations and Sustainment contract in our Base Operations Design group at Arnold Engineering Development Complex at Arnold AFB, TN. This Mechanical Engineer will be working as a member of an integrated team responsible for maintaining and sustaining the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts.

Job Summary
Mechanical Design Engineers design, evaluate, analyze, and assist in the fabrication and installation of hardware across the complex, including HVAC systems, utility and process piping systems, drive systems, mechanisms, and test hardware. Mechanical design engineers work closely with test and system engineers in development of design requirements and ensuring proposed designs meet those requirements. Close coordination with manufacturing is required to ensure economic designs.
Job Duties:
This position, under the guidance and direction of an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer, provides the following engineering services:
- Provide design support for various plant projects and test activities.
- Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria in design solutions and/or modifications to existing systems, equipment or other components.
- Perform assignments, which have specific objectives and require the investigation of a limited number of variables for mechanical engineering.
- Perform work, generally within one discipline, which involves the preparation, interpretation or review of calculations, specifications, plans, investigations, surveys, structures, systems or equipment; supports mechanical engineering with deploying and adhering to common engineering work processes throughout the TOS contract.
- Provide engineering guidance to support the procurement of pumps, valves, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, or other hardware necessary for the fabrication and installation of the proposed design.
- Participate in one or more of the following:
- Equipment design and development
- System design, including concept sketches and layouts
- Testing of materials
- Preparation of design calculations
- Preparation of specifications and scopes of work
- Reviewing and checking designs, drawings and data by other engineers or by suppliers
- Preparation or review of engineering studies and reports
- Preparation or review of material quantity estimates
- Uses engineering computer aided design/computer aided engineering (CAD/CAE) tools
- Participate in incident investigations
- Fitness for service evaluations
- Committees formed for specific tasks
- Review design documents of equipment manufacturers or subcontractors and prepare comments and recommendations.

Basic Qualifications:
- BS degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university
- Must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance and maintain authorized user access to the AEDC local area network.
- S. Citizenship is required due to federal government contract compliance requirements and the necessity to access secure federal databases and networks on Arnold Air Force Base
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience reading mechanical schematics and drawings
- Technical knowledge of engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering methods and construction methods and materials, and application of computer aided engineering (CAE)/computer aided design (CAD) tools to engineering problems.
- Working knowledge of major industry or regulatory standards and design criteria pertinent to the mechanical engineering discipline.
- Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Experience with writing scopes or work, equipment specifications, or other technical procurement documentation
- Ability to perform in a dynamic working environment with flexibility to meet mission demands
- Prior internship or co-op experience
- Strong organizational skills to track and facilitate progress on projects
- Demonstrated proactiveness and initiative to drive to results
- Exhibits strong level of technical curiosity and desire to seek understanding
- Strong interpersonal skills, strong written and oral communications skills, and confidence leading small teams
- Active Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance
